The famous American filmmaker Woody Allen showed his 50th movie at the Venice Film Festival. He talked to reporters and said that he has had an incredibly fortunate life without acknowledging the controversies that have troubled his recent years. He says he is “very, very lucky” and hopes this good fortune continues, although it is still early in the day.
Allen showcased his first French film, “Coup de Chance.” Allen mentioned that he was fortunate to have loving parents, wonderful friends, a fantastic marriage with a great wife, and two children. He is about to celebrate his 88th birthday in a few months. Throughout his life, he has never had to stay in a hospital, and he has been fortunate to avoid any major hardships or difficulties.
This director, who has won four Oscars and is famous for movies such as “Annie Hall” and other comedies, has faced personal challenges in his life. Consequently, numerous well-known figures in Hollywood have begun to distance themselves from him.
Woody Allen got caught in infamous media attention
During the 1990s, he gained much attention for a controversial situation. He had a romantic involvement and later married Soon-Yi Previn, who was adopted by his former girlfriend, Mia Farrow.
Allen was even accused of sexually abusing his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow. However, neither Allen ever accepted these allegations, nor did he land into any legal trouble. Despite a significant age gap between them, Allen is still married to Soon-Yi. They also have two daughters whom they adopted together.
In a different interview during the movie event, Allen expressed his support for the #MeToo Movement, which has brought much attention to abuse in the entertainment industry. However, he had also noted that, at times, it could go to extremes and become somewhat unreasonable.
During the Venice Film Festival, some individuals disagreed with the festival’s decision to showcase Allen’s new film due to his history. A small group of protestors made a commotion when he arrived at the event’s elegant entrance, labeling him as an “abuser” and even getting into altercations with the police.
The red carpet event continued without any disruptions, and the group causing problems was removed from the area in front of the Lido cinema, as reported by witnesses.
Allen opens up about his film “Coup de Chance”
Like many of his films, “Coup de Chance” explores love, infidelity, and death themes. However, Alen advised against dwelling excessively on the subject of death. He explained that there is nothing one can do to alter it, so it is not worth getting overly concerned about.
Initially, Allen intended to cast American actors in the movie. However, he later clarified that he has always deeply admired European filmmakers. So, he was comfortable switching to a different language, even though he did not speak French.
Before this, Allen had suggested that “Coup de Chance” might be the final film of his career. However, on Monday, he revealed that he had an interesting idea for a story based in his hometown of New York. He expressed his willingness to create this project if he could find someone willing to back it under his terms, which involved not reading the script and not knowing the cast he had chosen for it.
He jokingly said that if “some foolish person” agrees, he will make the film in New York.
