Veteran forward Otto Porter Jr. has decided to end his journey in professional basketball, announcing his retirement from the NBA after dedicating 11 seasons to the sport on Monday.
Porter, a key player in the Golden State Warriors’ victorious 2022 championship campaign, was set to be released by the Utah Jazz earlier on Monday, as reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.
“For the past 11 years, I had the chance to live my lifelong dream of playing in the NBA,” Porter said.
“That dream was capped by winning an NBA Championship! Unfortunately, my body is not allowing me to play at the level that I expect of myself, and I have therefore decided to retire.”
Porter began his NBA journey as the third overall pick in the 2013 draft by the Washington Wizards. Over the years, he transitioned from the Wizards to the Chicago Bulls in 2019 and then to the Orlando Magic in 2021.
Following a one-year deal with the Golden State Warriors for the 2021-22 season, he secured a two-year contract with the Toronto Raptors that offseason.
Unfortunately, foot injuries plagued Porter, limiting him to only 23 combined games over the past two seasons with the Raptors.
His stint with the Utah Jazz, acquired as part of a four-player trade last month, saw no game time.
Throughout his career spanning 527 games, Porter maintained averages of 10.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.1 steals. Notably, he boasted a career three-point shooting percentage of 39.7%.
During the Warriors’ win 2022 title pursuit, he showcased an impressive 40.4% accuracy from beyond the arc.
Before gracing the NBA, the 30-year-old showcased his talent at Georgetown University, where he earned the title of 2013 Big East Player of the Year.
