He fractured not far from all of his facial bones and lost almost a hand full of his teeth. Sounds painful, right? However, he got treated with dental implants, and he said on his Instagram that he was grateful for the efforts that were done to put back his teeth.
How the accident happened? and What happened to Fabio in the accident? Coming there, Fabio met with a life accident after he was introduced by UCI in 2021 for new barrier standards. In the tour of Poland’s opening stage, He collided with Dylan Groenewegen, a Dutch professional road racing cyclist, at the finish line, which made him hit the barriers hard. This left him with significant injuries, including a broken nose, skull fracture, lung and brain contusions, 10 teeth, and facial lacerations.
Fabio made a magnificent recovery to his profession after the tragic collision. While being admitted to the hospital, he was in a critical condition. Even after recovering from his coma, he had to visit the clinic often for the sake of his lost teeth and fractured facial bones.
An official announcement was made by the race organizers that Fabio had moved out of his coma and that his condition was great. Following that, the same month, Fabio declared that he was just happy that he was still alive on 18 August 2020.
Fabio returned to his professional career as a competitive racer on 11 April 2021, not forgetting to mention that the biker took part in the Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey. After returning to racing, the two-time Scheldeprijs winner, well-recognized as the “World Championships” for sprinters and has finished the Criterium du Dauphine and Volta ao Algarve.
Recently he was struck in the face by the phone of a fan which resulted in a few thick cuts on his face. Regarding this, he told the press that someone had reached out with their phone, and it was partly his fault too, but he did not see the hand and ended up getting those thick cuts, but he also mentioned that it could have been worse.
