Making waves and captivating audiences, ‘Exhuma’ has left an indelible mark on South Korean cinematic history. The Korean Film Council announced on March 9 that ‘Exhuma’ had officially surpassed 7,009,491 moviegoers as of March 8.
This groundbreaking achievement solidifies ‘Exhuma’ as the first Korean occult horror film to attract over 7 million moviegoers, signifying a monumental success at the box office.
What’s particularly noteworthy is that the film reached the remarkable milestone of 7 million moviegoers in under 16 days since its release, outpacing the previous record-holder ‘12.12: The Day’ by four days. The latter held the title of South Korea’s highest-grossing box office hit in 2023.
Undoubtedly, this achievement calls for celebration. In honor of this milestone, director Jang Jae-hyun and the cast members—Choi Min-sik, Kim Jae-chul, Kim Go-eun, and Yoo Hae-jin—gathered for a joyous photo.
Regrettably, Lee Do-hyun was unable to join due to his ongoing military service. Nonetheless, he expressed his joy in a heartfelt note when the film reached four million moviegoers a few days prior.
The acclaimed film narrates the tale of two exorcists (portrayed by Kim Go-eun and Lee Do-hyun), a mortician (Yoo Hae-jin), and a feng shui master (Choi Min-sik), who relocate mysterious graves for a lucrative fee.
