The Kpop idol was the main culprit in the ‘Burning Sun Scandal,’ which shook the entire nation. As a result, the court arrested Seungri after his first trial last year with nine charges under his name.
The court has now lessened his imprisonment to half. The latest decision made by the justice department is the result of Seungri’s change in stance. Earlier, both Seungri and the military prosecution did not appeal to the Supreme Court. Hence, in that case, his appeal is finalized. And now the singer will be released after serving a year and a month extra.

Seungri’s sentence period is reduced by half; He will now be serving one year and six months in prison. Previously, the court sentenced him to jail for a period of three years. In addition to this, a fine of 1,156,900,000 won (about $994,544) was also charged as punishment. He is still bound to pay the exact number.
The singer was charged with nine crimes. It includes the violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes, violation of the Food Sanitation Act, embezzlement, breach of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes, habitual gambling, violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, prostitution mediation, purchase of prostitution services, and special violence instigation.
During his first trial, Seungri denied eight out of nine charges. He only agreed to the violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act. However, Seungri acknowledged all the charges at the recent appeal trial. It benefitted him into a shortened sentence period.
‘The Burning Sun Scandal’ happened in 2018, becoming the biggest scandal to ever occur in the Kpop industry. Besides many big names from the industry, Seungri was the A-list celebrity involved in the scandal. Following the scandal, he left Bigbang. Also, he immediately retired from the Kpop industry.
