After the blockbuster release of Beverly Hills Cop 3, in 29 years, this is the first upcoming project of Beverly Hills Cop. In the sequel Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, Murphy will be reuniting with the franchise co-stars Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot.
All to know about Beverly Hills Cop
The first Beverly Hills Cop was released in 1984; it was directed by Martin Brest, and the screenplay was done by Eddie Murphy (Axel Foley). Mikey Tandino, police officer Axel Foley’s close friend, gets murdered as soon as he arrives in Detroit. The case is followed by Alex’s investigation of the case, which leads him to the crime world of Beverly Hills.
There, he meets Detective Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold), Sergeant John Taggart (John Ashton), and Lieutenant Andrew Bogomil (Ronny Cox). Among all the cast members, only Murphy and Reinhold appeared in two further series: Beverly Hills Cop II and Beverly Hills Cop III. In the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop, Axel Foley, Murphy, and Reinhold are still the only ones who’ll continue to be cast for the fourth time as well.
Based on what has been said to Empire magazine, the film will have Taylor Paige as Foley’s criminal defense attorney’s daughter. She also pulls her dad into a California-based case, which will lead to issues for Kevin Bacon’s LAPD special-unit officer.
Later, he’ll team up with a new partner, the role of which will be played by Joseph Gordon Levitt. Bruckheimer told Empire magazine in an interview that “they are hysterical together” in regard to Levitt as Foley’s friend.
The sequel to the movie will be directed by Mark Molloy, a newcomer to the industry. In the beginning, Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah were on board to direct the sequel, but they got replaced by Molly as the duo left for Warner Bros.’s ill-fated Batgirl.
The writer of the sequel is Will Beall (Aquaman). The Jack Bruckheimer films are being produced by Chad Oman, Melissa Reid, and Jack Bruckheimer as well, along with Murphy. The executive producer of the sequel is Charisse Hewitt. Beverly Hills Cop was in collaboration with Paramount, who had been developing the film and got replaced by Netflix in 2019, where the upcoming Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley will be released in 2024.
Jack Bruckheimer X Empire magazine
In an interview between Jack Bruckheimer and Empire magazine on November 20, 2023, Jack talked out a little information regarding the release of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley and about Eddie Murphy as well. He also shared a few pieces of information regarding the other cast members that will be seen in the sequel.
While talking about Murphy, Jack assures the audience that Murphy is going to give a phenomenal performance for this iconic role, as he says, “Anytime he walks on set, you never know what you’re going to get.

Regarding the pair of Murphy and Levitt, Bruckheimer stated that they make a strong “comedic combo” and “He gets stuck with Axel, and they are hysterical together.” He also added that “Joseph is such a great straight man for Eddie.”
Bruckheimer teased that there will be serious underpinnings to Beverly Hills Cop’s gags; in addition, he says, “It’s about the emotion,” stating that. “No matter how funny it is or how much great action it has, it’s all about the heartstrings.” He ends with a “get ready” alert for the Beverly Hills Cop fan community by saying, Get ready for a new killer case.
