Dune: Prophecy will start streaming on Max next month. The story is still a mystery, just like the sands of Arrakis. Thankfully, Collider’s Steve Weintraub spoke with the cast and crew at New York Comic Con. This talk helped to clarify the series’ plot.
Alison Schapker, the showrunner and executive producer, explained that Dune: Prophecy happens after the Butlerian Jihad. This was a time when humans fought against artificial intelligence.
The series will show the founding of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood. This group prepared Paul Atreides to be the galactic messiah, as seen in Dune.
“This show is about the origin of the Bene Gesserit, the sisters you might have seen in Denis [Villeneuve]’s movies if you watch them. We’re set 10,000 years before the film, but we’re in the distant future. We’re also 10,000 years, about, from now, and we are in the shadow of The Great Machine Wars.
Humans have defeated artificial intelligence, and thinking machines are banned and now humanity is in a period of rebuilding. We sometimes joke that it’s the Dark Ages of Dune.
The great schools are rising, and one of these great schools is the sisterhood, the Bene Gesserit. We’re gonna get to see how they rose to power,” Schapker said.
Who Stars in ‘Dune: Prophecy’?
The series will focus on two sisters from the powerful Harkonnen family who help to create the Bene Gesserit. These roles will be played by Emily Watson (from Chernobyl) and Olivia Williams (from The Crown).
They live in a galaxy ruled by Emperor Javicco Corrino (Mark Strong from The Penguin) and Empress Natalya (Jodhi May from Renegade Nell), along with their daughter, Princess Ynez (Sarah-Sofie Boussnina from Knightfall).
Other members of the new sisterhood will include Faoileann Cunningham (from The Northman), Aoife Hinds (from Hellraiser), Chloe Lea (from Foundation), and Jade Anouka (from His Dark Materials). Shalom Brune-Franklin (from Baby Reindeer) will play a servant from the Fremen group.
Desmond Hart (from Raised by Wolves) will play a soldier against the sisterhood, and Chris Mason (from Broadchurch) will play a member of the noble Atreides family.
Dune: Prophecy faced many challenges from page to screen. The series is inspired by the novel Sisterhood of Dune, which was co-written by Brian Herbert, the son of Dune author Frank Herbert, and Kevin J. Anderson. The show went through many changes during pre-production. This included replacing original star Shirley Henderson with Olivia Williams.
Dune: Prophecy promises to be an exciting addition to the Dune universe, focusing on the origins of the Bene Gesserit sisterhood.
With a attractive plot set 10,000 years before the events of Dune, viewers will witness the aftermath of the Butlerian Jihad and the rise of powerful new factions.
The talented cast, including Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, will bring depth to their roles as key figures in this intriguing story.
As the series approaches its premiere on Max, fans can look forward to showing the rich lore and history of Arrakis, making it a must-watch for science fiction enthusiasts.
Dune: Prophecy will premiere in November on Max.
