Funcom has officially announced the first PlayStation closed beta for Dune: Awakening, marking a significant step toward the game’s console release. The limited-time playtest is scheduled to run from June 25 to June 29 and will focus on evaluating how the survival MMO performs on PlayStation hardware.
The announcement, shared via Dune: Awakening official update, confirms that this early test phase is designed to gather player feedback on gameplay systems that have been specifically adjusted for console, including controls, combat responsiveness, and progression flow.
Limited Access Beta Focuses on Multiplayer Experience
This closed beta is restricted to PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro users located in North America. Funcom has clarified that both new players and those who have previously played on PC are eligible to register, although only a limited number of participants will ultimately receive invitations.
The playtest will concentrate exclusively on the multiplayer portion of the game. Single-player content, including deeper customization systems, will be tested separately in future phases. This focused approach suggests the developer is prioritizing network performance and large-scale interactions before expanding testing coverage.
Participants should also note that the beta will be conducted under strict confidentiality rules. All selected players must agree to a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA), which prohibits streaming, recording, or publicly discussing gameplay during the test period.

The primary objective of this beta is to fine-tune the console experience. Funcom has made several adjustments to ensure that gameplay feels natural on controllers, particularly in areas such as combat mechanics and character progression.
In its official statement, the team emphasized its commitment to improving the console version, noting that bringing Dune: Awakening to PlayStation is a “massive priority.” This highlights the importance of the beta as a technical and gameplay-focused milestone rather than a content showcase.
The decision to test multiplayer first also indicates that stability and performance remain top concerns, especially given the scale of the game’s shared-world systems.
Registration and Selection Process Explained
Players interested in participating can register through the official playtest page. Invitations will be sent via email to selected applicants ahead of the beta start date, along with access keys and NDA agreements.
However, Funcom has made it clear that this initial test will be small in scale. The limited player pool is intentional, allowing developers to closely monitor performance and gather detailed feedback without overwhelming the servers.
For those who are not selected, the developer has hinted at additional testing opportunities in the future. As development progresses, more players are expected to gain access through expanded beta phases.
