All is not well in the Brown household. A new trailer for season 19 of Sister Wives was released on TLC’s YouTube channel, giving fans a brief view of what’s happening with the polygamist family after a tough 18th season.
The family dynamics fell apart in season 18, and things still look grim in the new season, which is set to premiere on September 15th.
Kody Brown now has to handle the fallout from separating from all his wives, except for Robyn Brown. With emotions running high, season 19 is shaping up to be one of the most intense seasons of Sister Wives so far.
In the trailer, Meri Brown says, “Kody and I are officially done,” while Christine Brown shares with the audience that she is now dating a man named David Woolley. According to People Magazine, Christine eventually married David in October.
Robyn also seems to be struggling with the distance between her and the other wives, saying she feels like “the idiot who got left behind.” Kody, on the other hand, makes some harsh comments about his situation, telling Meri, “It’s not divorce that sucks, it’s marrying the wrong person.”
In a separate interview, Meri fires back, saying, “What sucks is marrying the wrong person and not having the decency to tell her until 32 years later.” This brief preview offers just a glimpse of what fans can expect from the upcoming season.
The Sisters Face Tough Competition
While Sister Wives remains popular, it isn’t the only show in the Mormon reality TV niche anymore. Hulu recently launched Secret Lives of Mormon Wives in early August, focusing on a sex scandal involving #MomTok, a group of Mormon TikTok influencers that included Taylor Frankie Paul, Layla Taylor, and Demi Engemann.
Although the scandal was not as controversial as polygamy within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, it made headlines online in 2022. TLC has also tried to replicate the success of Sister Wives with other Mormon-themed shows like Breaking the Faith, Escaping the Prophet, and My Husband’s Not Gay, but none have matched the popularity of Sister Wives.
Despite the competition, Sister Wives is doing well. According to an article from Deadline last year, season 18 of the show drew 4 million views during its premiere, making it “the highest ratings the show has seen in a decade.”
This also placed Sister Wives among the most-watched cable TV shows that week, second only to NFL Preseason games, according to ratings shared by SpoilerTV. How the new season will perform remains to be seen, but fans don’t have long to wait to see the Browns back in action.
Season 19 of Sister Wives premieres Sunday, September 15, at 10 PM ET on TLC. New episodes will be available for streaming the following day on Max.
