Capcom is bringing Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen to Nintendo Switch 2 with a significant technical feature that has not previously appeared in one of the company’s Switch 2 releases. The upcoming port will use frame generation, allowing the game’s 30 FPS base output to produce visuals that are intended to feel closer to 60 FPS.
Producer Naoto Oyama explained the technology in an interview with Famitsu, confirming that the feature will be available in both handheld and TV modes. Players will also be able to switch frame generation on or off in the final version.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 Targets 30 FPS on Switch 2
According to Oyama, the Switch 2 version targets 30 FPS as its base frame rate regardless of whether the game is being played handheld or docked. Activating frame generation then creates additional frames between the traditionally rendered ones.
Oyama explained that this allows players to experience “smooth visuals equivalent to 60 FPS.” However, Capcom is not claiming that the game is natively rendering every frame at 60 FPS.
The technology instead calculates what an intermediate frame should look like and inserts it between two traditionally rendered frames. This approach is already relatively common on PC, but Oyama confirmed that Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen will be Capcom’s first Nintendo Switch 2 game to use frame generation.

The producer also acknowledged that frame generation has limitations. Because some frames are generated through interpolation rather than rendered independently, certain situations can result in visual artifacts, including a slight ghosting effect.
Capcom has reportedly determined that these issues occur infrequently enough that they should not significantly affect the overall experience. Oyama said the company expects players to notice the smoother presentation more than the occasional imperfections.
The final release will therefore give players control over the feature. Those who prioritize smoother motion can enable frame generation, while players who prefer to avoid potential interpolation artifacts can turn it off.
Oyama also compared the technology with native 60 FPS rendering on PC. With native 60 FPS, every frame is individually rendered, whereas frame generation effectively predicts “what would happen if there was a frame here” and inserts the result into the sequence.
Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 9, 2026. The port could therefore provide an important test of how frame-generation technology can be used to improve the presentation of demanding current-generation games on Nintendo’s hardware.
