Shueisha replaces Dragon Ball Super with Metaphor: ReFantazio in Jump Festa's original art exhibition, adding to concerns about the manga's future following its extended hiatus.

Fans hoping for an update on the Dragon Ball Super manga’s return have received another disappointing development. Shueisha has removed the series from the Jump Original Art World exhibition lineup for Jump Festa 2027, replacing it with Metaphor: ReFantazio, the manga adaptation of Atlus’ popular role-playing game.

The change appeared on the official Jump Festa 2027 website following an update on November 2, 2026. The exhibition features original manga illustrations and signed artwork from series published across Shueisha’s magazines, including Weekly Shonen Jump and V Jump. The updated V Jump lineup now lists Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai: The Hero Avan and the Demon King of Hellfire, and Metaphor: ReFantazio, with a notice confirming that Dragon Ball Super was replaced. Shueisha has not provided an explanation for the replacement.

This development follows the manga’s absence from Jump Festa 2027’s promotional visual and announced stage programming. With the series also missing from the original art exhibition, fans have fewer reasons to expect a major manga announcement at the upcoming event.

Dragon Ball Super Manga Remains on Hiatus After Akira Toriyama’s Death

The latest Jump Festa development is particularly concerning because Dragon Ball Super has not resumed regular serialization since March 2024. The manga began in 2015, with Akira Toriyama handling the story and supervision while Toyotaro illustrated the series.

Following Toriyama’s death in March 2024, the manga entered an indefinite hiatus after Chapter 103. Toyotaro later released Chapter 104 in February 2025, a special installment featuring Goten and Trunks that concluded the adaptation of the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero storyline. However, the release did not mark the return of its regular monthly schedule.

The manga’s future remains uncertain, although Toyotaro has previously expressed interest in continuing the story. In August 2026, Complex reported that the artist responded to a young fan hoping for new chapters with,

“Thank you. I got it.”

His message to fans,

“Everything is for the return of the series,”

has also kept expectations alive.

Dragon Ball Franchise Still Has Projects Planned for 2026 and Beyond

Despite the manga’s uncertain future, the latest Jump Festa lineup does not mean the entire Dragon Ball franchise is disappearing from the event. The official Dragon Ball website confirmed that Dragon Ball Z will have a presence at the AMNIBUS merchandise booth, featuring newly illustrated artwork inspired by the battle against Majin Buu.

The anime side of the franchise is also moving forward. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, an enhanced edition of the television anime, began broadcasting in Japan in October 2026.

Jump Festa 2027 will take place on December 19 and 20 at Makuhari Messe in Japan. While fans will still have franchise-related merchandise and anime developments to look forward to, Shueisha’s decision to replace Dragon Ball Super in its original art exhibition offers no indication of when Toyotaro’s manga might return.

Importantly, the publisher has not announced the manga’s cancellation. Its absence from the exhibition is another setback for fans awaiting new chapters, but it does not confirm that the series has ended.
