The TV anime adaptation of the sci-fi adventure manga Dr. Stone unfolds with a mysterious premise. In 2019, a mysterious flash petrifies humanity, leaving them frozen in stone for 3,700 years. In April 5738, 16-year-old prodigy Senku Ishigami awakens to a world devoid of civilization, determined to unravel the mystery behind humanity’s petrification and find a cure.
With the discovery of nitric acid, Senku and his friend Taiju Oki began reviving others, including high school martial artist Tsukasa Shishio and classmate Yuzuriha Ogawa, to rebuild civilization based on scientific principles. Forming the Kingdom of Science, Senku integrates with a tribe already living on Earth, gradually earning their trust as he introduces them to the wonders of science.
Through them, Senku uncovers his adoptive father Byakuya’s legacy a group of astronauts who survived petrification aboard the International Space Station. Their journey leads them to a nearby island inhabited by the Petrification Kingdom, custodians of the petrification device that altered humanity’s fate.
As part of the fifth-anniversary celebration, the anime’s official Twitter account revealed a special illustration by Takashi Muratani, highlighting the series’ enduring appeal. The “Dr. Stone 2024 Ishi no Utage” event on August 11 at Tokyo International Forum Hall C and the nationwide “Dr. Stone 5th Anniversary Fair” from August 24 to September 16 promise fans exciting opportunities to engage with the series.
Following the success of its previous seasons in 2019, 2021, and 2023, the announcement of the fourth season titled “Dr. Stone: Scientific Future” in December 2023 marks the next chapter in Senku’s quest for scientific enlightenment and human revival.
