Disney has officially renewed its anime-inspired original series Dragon Striker for a second season, with the announcement made during the show’s panel at Anime Expo 2026 in Los Angeles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming season is scheduled to premiere in early 2027 on Disney+ and Disney XD, continuing the fantasy sports story that blends magical powers with competitive action.
The renewal follows the debut of the first season, which introduced viewers to Key, a farm boy who discovers he possesses the legendary power of the Dragon Striker. Set at the elite Kal Asterock Academy, the series follows Key and goalkeeper Ssyelle as they compete in magical sports while uncovering hidden secrets tied to an ancient evil threatening their world. Disney also released a first-look image teasing the returning cast ahead of the new season.
Disney revealed that Season 2 will raise the stakes as the Knights struggle with fractured friendships, long-buried secrets, and a growing supernatural threat while fighting to reach the Banner’s Helm championship. The official synopsis promises a larger conflict that will test both the team’s unity and their determination to achieve victory.
The series features Akshay Kumar as Key, Rebecca LaChance as Ssyelle, Yeukayi Ushe as Milo, Waylon Jacobs as Odward, and Evanna Lynch as Ameline. The music is composed by Kevin Penkin, known for his work on Made in Abyss and Star Wars: Visions, with the orchestral score recorded in Japan.
The opening theme, “Power of the Dragon,” was written and produced by Cash Callaway and performed by Sarah West, while Kieran Rhodes performs the ending theme, “The Very End.”
Produced by La Chouette Compagnie in association with Disney Television Animation, Dragon Striker is led by co-creators Sylvain Dos Santos and Charles Lefebvre, with Paul McKeown serving as head writer. Fans looking to catch up before the new season arrives can stream all episodes of Season 1 on Disney+ and Hulu.
