Dark Gathering Season 2 has officially been confirmed for 2027, bringing the supernatural horror anime back for a new chapter. Based on Kenichi Kondo’s manga, the series follows characters with extraordinary spiritual abilities as they confront dangerous and unsettling entities across Japan.

The announcement also comes with the first horror-themed visual for the upcoming season. It depicts the spirit of A Dam standing inside a dimly lit inspection tunnel, creating an ominous image that emphasizes the darker atmosphere awaiting viewers.

The Dark Gathering manga has been serialized in Shueisha’s Jump SQ. since 2019 and has surpassed 3 million copies in circulation. The first anime season premiered in July 2023, establishing the series as a supernatural thriller centered on spirits, curses and the people determined to capture them.

Dark Gathering Season 2 Moves the Story to Kyoto

The second season will shift the action to Kyoto and begin adapting the story from “#34: Journey to the Capital,” which comes from Volume 9 of the original manga. This new setting will continue the characters’ pursuit of dangerous spirits while expanding the supernatural conflict introduced in the first season.

The story centers on university student Keitaro Gentoga, who possesses powerful spiritual sensitivity and had previously isolated himself from others. His life changes after meeting Yayoi Hozuki, a gifted girl searching for the soul of her deceased mother, who was taken by an evil spirit.

Keitaro eventually joins Yayoi and his childhood friend Eiko Hozuki as they pursue their respective goals and battle spirits throughout Japan. Their adventures are accompanied by the recurring phrase, “Let’s go! Suto!”

The newly revealed visual focuses on the spirit of A Dam, which appears inside an inspection tunnel surrounded by darkness. Its unsettling composition suggests that Season 2 will retain the horror-heavy atmosphere that has become central to Dark Gathering.

Hiroshi Ikehata returns as director, with Shigeru Murakoshi handling series composition and Yuri Ichinose serving as character designer. OLM remains the animation studio, while the principal cast includes Yu Shinohara as Yayoi Hozuki, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Keitaro Gentoga, Kana Hanazawa as Eiko Hozuki and Rina Kawaguchi as Ai Kamiyo.

Further information about the 2027 anime season is expected through the official Dark Gathering website and social media channels.
