Digimon Ghost Game Episode 46 Review
In this episode, there was a lot of tension that made the horror come to life, and I was on the edge of my seat throughout. In addition, I would like to thank the writers for making simple premises into extremely engaging and entertaining episodes. I admit there are times when I read a synopsis for an episode and think it sounds pretty plain on paper, but the actual episode makes the plot interesting and entertaining! The Ghost Game crew did an amazing job of rendering Kotarou’s suffering so poignant and tragic.
Even if Kotarou is pretty sleazy, I don’t think anyone, especially a child, deserves to be plagued by hallucinations and visions until he is unable to care for himself and becomes afraid of things that are necessary to his survival. It was especially impressive how well Mr. Daisuke Sakaguchi captured the terror of Kotarou, especially with how realistic his whimpering sounded. Hopefully, Kotarou will receive more attention in the future so Mr. Sakaguchi can again showcase his vocal abilities.
Despite how smart these six usually are, they do have a lot of moments of shortsightedness because of the omnipresent power of horror movie tropes: by this point, it is probably obvious to them that, as long as they can, they should always stick together since, even when one of them gets into serious trouble, they are most often in danger.
Additionally, they should know that even if they have to split up, they should not leave someone alone. As there were only two locker rooms to check, there was no reason to split up and even less reason to leave Ruli on her own. Such is the nature of horror series heroes – they will fall for cliches no matter how clever they are!
Along with the dramatic irony and actual terror, Oleamon’s manipulation and grooming of Kotarou (both in an innocent and immoral sense) was another stunning aspect of this episode. I was outraged and troubled by Oleamon’s activities, which I believed to be an allegory or metaphor for child groomers. Oleamon was trying to entice his victim and influence him into performing what he requested of him based on his tone and behavior.
When the terror in Ghost Game is contrasted with actual horror, it shines out. However, when it hits close to the heart, it sends shivers down your spine. Fantastical aspects do spice up and expand the forms of horror that may be depicted. Next Episode: Mummymon Returns and Exploring Death, It has been 13 episodes since we last saw Mummymon, and I’m looking forward to seeing them on screen again and interacting with our main six.
There seems to be another theme in the next episode relating to death, so I’m curious to see what will be explored this time. Angoramon isn’t stalking anyone again, so I hope he hasn’t tried that since he met Gammamon, Ruli, and Hiro. That smile, however, is quite sweet.
