Born in Jackson Heights, Queens, in New York City in 1946, Susan Abigail Sarandon is an American actress, voice artist, and social and political activist. Her mother, Lenora Marie, was of Italian descent, while her father, Philip Leslie Tomalin, had English ancestors.

Raised Christian, Susan is an alumnus of the Catholic University of America, Washington DC. She struggled before stepping into the world of acting because she worked as a switchboard operator, barber, house cleaner, and a ward girl in a hospital.

Susan Tomalin married her American-Greek college friend, Chris Sarandon, in 1967, but their marriage lasted only twelve years. Keeping Chris’ surname as her stage name, Susan moved in with Louis Malle. After dating a few guys, Susan dated Franco Amurri and gave birth to his daughter, Eva, in 1985.

Susan was encouraged to openly express her ideas by UNICEF and FAO, who appointed her as their Goodwill Ambassador in 1999 and 2010, respectively. Moreover, she carried the Olympic Flag before the games started in 2006.

In 2003, Susan did not consider the invasion of Iraq from the Iraq War to be a pre-emptive strike, and her then-boyfriend, Tim Robbins, supported her in the statement. Susan supported an American perennial presidential candidate, Ralph Nader, in 2000 and 2004.

In 2008, Tim Robbins and Susan supported John Edwards during the presidential election. Four years later, the latter supported Barack Obama but was not impressed by his performance after he became the president. She supported Senator Bernie Sanders during the 2016 presidential election.
