Betty, who lives in the new world where superheroes and powers are common, tries her best to live an ordinary life in America. She was a guide, who helped these superhumans to control and regulate their powers.
She was close friends with a shy introvert named Daniel, and the two shared a great bond. But it seems that Daniel had secrets of his own, that he had been keeping from her. The truth of his identity will soon cause rampage in their friendship.
Previously, James, a new character had just transferred to Betty’s school. He was charming and rather handsome, which made the girls gush over him. Linda, who had been living with Betty, got mad when she forgot to take his number after their meet.
The addition of James to the story, and his reaction on seeing Daniel meant that the truth was soon to come out. Daniel resembled someone “dangerous” according to James, and he suspected him to the supervillain Dave.
However, Daniel’s meek personality made him doubtful, especially with the burn marks on his hands. Is Daniel really what James supsects him to be or was he truly mistaking Daniel for someone else? The upcoming chapter of Definition of a Villain will answer all the doubts!
Recap
Seeing Betty hand out with a new handsome guy, Linda immediately clutches on to her, grabbing her to get some lunch. Betty feels awkward as she and Linda weren’t close enough to eat together in school despite living in the same house.
James, who witnesses the whole conversation, introduces himself to Linda. They exchange small talk and she asks if she could bring her friends along as well. Right at that moment, Daniel walks in and sees Betty surrounded by a group of people.
Linda immediately calls Daniel and asks him to join them for lunch. Betty was aware of how awkward Daniel gets when he’s around a large group of people, so was expecting him to refuse. However, unlike her plan, Daniel agrees to go with them.
James reaches out his hand to Daniel and tries to befriend him, but Linda intervenes saying how Daniel didn’t like shaking hands with strangers. Later, they all head to the cafetaria, and the atmosphere is rather awkward for Betty.
While eating, Linda offers Betty some salad, saying how she shouldn’t be a picky eater and not just eat sandwiches. She also tells James that her and Betty grew up together in the same house. Hearing this, James says they don’t seem as close, unlike Betty and Daniel.
Suddenly, James stares down Daniel and tells him how familiar he looks. His hair, his height, all reminded him of someone he hated.
When he reaches out to touch him, Daniel lashes out. James saw his burn marks and immediately retracted. He apologized to Daniel for mistaking him for someone else and leaves a while later after getting an urgent call.
Soon after the rest also leave and Betty and Daniel are alone. Betty blames herself for what happened, thinking of how she could’ve easily avoided triggering Daniel. She asks if Daniel was okay after the incident. Daniel instead asks Betty of her well-being, as he was more worried about how she was.
