Def Leppard and Journey will infuse Boston with a healthy dose of ’80s nostalgia come summertime. On Monday, August 5, 2024, the rock bands will visit Fenway Park as part of their co-headlining tour in 2024.
After an 18-month promotional tour for their most recent album, “Diamond Star Halos,” Def Leppard is returning to the road with a 23-city stadium tour.
The tour kicks off at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on July 6 and ends on September 8 at Coors Field in Denver. Joe Elliott of Def Leppard stated in a press release that the upcoming tour will offer something new for the fans despite the band’s quick return.
Steve Miller Band and Cheap Trick will accompany Def Leppard
“We’re hitting the ground running with a fresh stage show and a set of songs that will commemorate specific aspects of our history,” Elliott said. “There might even be a surprise or two in store.” Journey and Def Leppard will perform at Fenway Park alongside veteran rock group Heart, who is known for hits like “Magic Man,” “Crazy on You,” and “Barracuda.”
Steve Miller Band and Cheap Trick will accompany Def Leppard and Journey on select tour dates. When these legendary acts are combined, they play a good chunk of the standard 100.7 WZLX playlist.
The seventh act for the 2024 Fenway Park Concert Series has been announced: Def Leppard, Journey, and Heart. Alongside them are Hootie and the Blowfish (June 21), Foo Fighters (July 21), Blink-182 (July 23), Kane Brown (July 20), Noah Kahan (July 18–19), and Green Day (Aug. 7).
The tour’s website is the place to register for presale tickets, which go on sale on Wednesday, December 13, at 10 a.m. On Friday, December 15, at 10 a.m., general public ticket sales begin on the Red Sox concert website.
Journey and Def Leppard will be hopping around the globe
Journey and Def Leppard have both spent a lot of time on the road, performing their musical talents all over the world. Following a successful stadium tour in 2022 with Motley Crue, Poison, and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Def Leppard embarked on a worldwide tour in 2023.
The band’s frontman, Joe Elliott, teased surprises and a nod to the band’s illustrious past in their upcoming shows. Journey, which is celebrating their 50th anniversary with the Freedom tour, has announced several 2024 dates in advance of the stadium extravaganza.
They will be touring arenas across the United States from February 9 to April 29, building anticipation for their massive stadium tour with Def Leppard.
As fans eagerly await this historic musical event, expectations are high for a summer full of unforgettable hits, thrilling live performances, and the timeless magic of rock ‘n’ roll as only Journey and Def Leppard can deliver.
More about Def Leppard
Def Leppard, a British rock band, was formed in Sheffield in 1976. Rick Savage (bass, backing vocals), Joe Elliott (lead vocals), Rick Allen (drums), Phil Collen (guitar, backing vocals), and Vivian Campbell (guitar, backing vocals) have been the band’s members since 1992. They rose to prominence in the early 1980s as part of the British heavy metal movement’s new wave.
Commercial success for the band peaked in the early 1980s and early 1990s. In 1980, their debut album, “On Through the Night,” reached number fifteen in the United Kingdom, but it received little attention outside of the country.
“High ‘n’ Dry,” Mutt Lange’s 1981 follow-up, was instrumental in establishing their catchy hard rock sound. A popular track from the album, “Bringin’ On the Heartbreak,” was one of the first rock videos to air on MTV in 1982.
However, in the United States and the United Kingdom, the album only charted in the top 30 and 40, respectively. “Pyromania,” Def Leppard’s second studio album, was released in January 1983.
The album’s singles “Photograph” and “Rock of Ages” both peaked at number one on the US Rock Tracks chart and made the Hot 100 top 20. “Pyromania” debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, received Diamond certification in the United States, and was certified 7 platinum in Canada. It also made the top 20 in the United Kingdom, but its international sales were disappointing.
