Let’s find out the Decision To Leave Ending Explained. Jang Hae-Joon (Park Hae-il), an insomniac but cool police detective, is investigating a man’s death in Busan who may have fallen from a peak.
His suspicions about Song Seo-rae (Tang Wei), the deceased’s wife, grow. He loses concentration as he considers another murder case and his estranged wife, who must live elsewhere due to her profession, combined with his attraction to her and mistrust of her. Every night, Hae-Joon monitors and stakes her home.
Seo-race starts to respond to his desire as he develops an increasing obsession. As they get closer, he becomes confident that she is not the culprit and ends the investigation. They can now be more sentimentally involved with one another now that this is ended, but Hae-Joon’s important discovery causes them to drift apart.
About a year later, he and his wife relocated to Ipo. He now works at a police department where he is depressed and exhausted, where the majority of the cases are local tragedies and stolen items rather than high-profile crimes. Hae-Joon is once more entangled in a web of deceit and complex emotions when a now-remarried Seo-rae shows up in Ipo.
Decision To Leave Ending Explained
The detective learns after the first act that Seo-rae threw her husband over a mountaintop through a carefully thought-out scheme, leaving him broken and hopeless. He steps away from her, offering her the phone she used to scale the wall back and asking her to throw it away as he feels his integrity as a cop destroyed.
When the action moves to Ipo, the narrative is repeated. When business investor Im Ho-shin, Seo-rae’s new husband, is found dead at his house, Hae-Joon becomes obsessed with pursuing her as the prime suspect.
An individual soon admits to the murder. Because the deceased had cheated on his mother and cost her millions of dollars, Sa Cheol-Seong committed the crime. A tracker was put on Seo-rae’s phone so he could know where she was in case he intended to punish her spouse by using her.
He also maintains Seo-rae is innocent. To find out Seo-rae’s true motivations for visiting Ipo and to see if she was involved in this latest murder, Hae-Joon confronts her when they cross paths at the top of a mountain.
She tells him that Ho-Shin discovered a phone recording in which Hae-Joon professes his love for her, a revelation he can’t recall making. After discovering he had an affair with Seo-Rae, his wife deserts him when he gets home.
Hae-Joon finds Ho-Shin’s phone after everything seems to be peaceful, which his wife had thrown into the water to prevent Hae-Joon’s wife from hearing the audio mentioned before. After getting Sa to corroborate it, he learns that Seo-rae and his mother met on the day of his mother’s death at the hospital.
Given that Sa had previously threatened her with murdering Ho-Shin as soon as his mother passed away, he concludes that she smuggled fentanyl pills that were kept in her flat. Using Sa’s tracker, he follows her to a beach, where the phone is placed in her car.
When the tide is rising in a remote area of the beach, Seo-rae digs a pit in the sand and enters in, allowing herself to be buried and drowned. Hae-Joon cries out for help as he arrives but is unable to find her.
The tragic fulfillment of this unlikely love’s romantic promise comes from Seo-rae’s decision to die at the film’s finale. She finally decides to terminate her life for a very deep cause at the end of the road after her love interest has once more provided evidence that she has either committed murder or, more specifically, that she has assisted in the murder.
When he first found out about her passing, he was devastated and depressed and had to leave Seo-Rae. She added, “I love you so much I can’t let this happen again. Your love stopped the moment you told me you loved me.”
