Death On The Nile Filming Locations
The movie “Death on the Nile” might look like it was filmed in Egypt only. The fans were convinced that the sandy landscapes that were in the film were real. But most of the film was shot in Longcross Studios, located in England. The makers have reportedly tried to build tons of sets in England to make it look like Egypt.
The makers have even recreated famous places like the Old Cataract Hotel and the Abu Simbel temples. The famous ship of the film where we saw how the investigation took place, i.e., the SS Karnak, was also made in the studio. We have learned that Egypt was only used for a few shots to demonstrate how and where the story was happening.
So, some interesting places have played a very big role in this movie. One of the first places we see in the film is where Simon and Linnet get married. We have learned that It’s a historic place called the Sofitel Legend Old Cataract in Egypt. So this place has a lot of history. We also learned how famous people like Winston Churchill and Agatha Christie stayed there.
The makers have filmed some parts of this film here. The makers have recreated the hotel in the studio to make it look like the real thing. They added fancy halls, a balcony, and even a jetty. They have also used their artistic skills to make it fit the story.
The movie also features a paddle steamer called the SS Karnak. It’s a big boat, and they didn’t spare any expense in making it look amazing. The design team did a lot of research and built a big model of the boat.
This model asper sources couldn’t float on water. As a solution, they tried to run it on railroad tracks to make it look like it was moving on water. The actors had to pretend they were on a real boat, and they built some cabin interiors separately for filming.
This film takes the watchers to multiple ancient ruins that are said to be based on the Temples of Philae in Aswan, Egypt. These famous temples have been around for a long time. They are said to be known for their hieroglyphics on the walls. So, for this movie, many artists have recreated these hieroglyphics on huge plaster sheets measuring 30 feet by 100 feet.
The makers used Abu Simbel for filming as well. There are huge statues of Rameses II that were carved out of rocks long ago. So, these statues were moved in real life. It took the makers around 16 weeks to make them. And they also used materials like polystyrene and plaster to do it. They had to landscape this surrounding area with tons of sand to make it look authentic.
We also saw how the characters visit a lively Egyptian spice market with temple ruins. But this scene was not filmed in a studio but at the Cotswold Water Park Nature Reserve near Swindon in the UK.
