Recap
Episode 12 begins with Tee and the others becoming unconscious. New uses the smoke to put all of them into deep sleep where they keep hallucinating about Non. New then uses the antidote to keep himself awake and aware of his surroundings.
Meanwhile, Fluke and the others start seeing Non and end up having anxiety attacks. Some of them experience intense hallucinations which cause them to kill each other. This is also where we find out that Non had actually died due to the injuries given to him by Tan’s uncle.
Fluke hears voices branding him as selfish and refusing to acknowledge his role in Non’s unfortunate situation. He then finds himself back at school, hurrying into the classroom where the broken camera, wrongly linked to Non, rests on the ground.
As Fluke crawls out of the classroom, he sees the masked figure from his imagination, but when the mask comes off, it’s Non. Fluke apologizes, saying he didn’t spread the video. Non screams at him to take the camera and film him, so Fluke painfully sticks nails into his own eyes.
While Top dashes through the forest, he encounters Non, who grabs him, but Top breaks free and rushes back to his friends at the house. White gives him water, but he chokes and collapses while his friends watch. After regaining consciousness, he’s still confused and mistakes Fluke for Non. They start fighting, each imagining they’re battling Non, and tragically tumble down the stairs, leading to their demise.
Tee finds himself on a rooftop with Non, who hands him a knife, pleading for help to end his suffering. Meanwhile, White imagines himself back at the game station where he and Tee first met.
They argue about Tee returning to find White moved on and dating Phee. As they face their fears, confronting each other in real life, Non pushes Tee to his limit. Tee grabs the knife and plunges it into his own stomach, but tragically, it’s White who gets stabbed and dies instantly.
Following Tee and White, Phee and Jin experience another set of terrible hallucinations. Phee sees Non asking him why he couldn’t save him, while Jin sees himself in a room full of cameras. Phee somehow manages to get rid of the dreams and later shoots New to stop him.
Dead Friend Forever Ending Explained
With White, New, and Fluke dead, the only ones who seem to successfully make it out of the vacation house are Phee and Jin. We fast-forward two years later. Jin returns to the country from his time abroad.
He reaches out to Phee, who’s occupied on a filming set. Jin lets Phee know about his return and expresses a desire to meet up after visiting Tee. It’s during this conversation that we learn about Tee’s circumstances following the loss of White.
Jin and Phee meet at the lake and discuss Tee’s situation, realizing they can’t help him unless he helps himself. They express gratitude for supporting each other. Suddenly, Phee sees Non and almost walks into the water in a trance, but Jin stops him.
Puzzled, they wonder how they left the valley mansion without any recollection. That’s where Phee realizes that maybe Jin and him never left the house and all of this was just a part of their hallucinations.
Dead Friend Forever ends abruptly, showing that none of the people who betrayed Non were able to come out of this mess alive. Phee continues to rot in the vacation house and will now live the rest of his life trapped inside it.
White and New’s deaths were unexpected, but it was the former’s death that left us all shocked. White wasn’t involved in any one of the bullying incidents, so seeing him die for no reason by the hand of his lover was a heartbreaking sight.
