You know, Disgruntled would make a perfectly good title for Curb Your Enthusiasm—after all, Larry is that way a lot of the time. He’s got a couple different reasons to be, as usual. A few minor plots are given to us to follow.
The majority of them are made clear in an early scene involving Larry, Irma, Jeff, and Susie in a golf club restaurant. The “Disgruntled” letter, which is displayed in close-up in the opening scene of the episode, is the focal point and the object of the title.
It said “Disgruntled,” was pinned to the men’s restroom bulletin board at the golf club, and was filled with a lot of complaints reminiscent of Larry. As L.D. describes the situation to Susie, she says, “It is something you would kind of do.” You must acknowledge.
Recap
Due to the Atlanta incident, Jeff informs Larry that Willie Geist is interested in writing a feature of him while the four wait to place their meals at the golf club restaurant. (It seems excellent, doesn’t it? There’s no way Larry could screw it up.
Additionally, when the waiter gets to their table, Larry notices a new annoyance: these people won’t even serve breakfast until ten minutes after eleven. The waiter calls Larry out for trying to find a way out of serving breakfast by assembling a dish a la Five Easy Pieces, a Jack Nicholson film, out of Cobb salad ingredients.
To ensure that they would have at least one essential ingredient—eggs—Larry steps up his game, though, telling her that he has even brought his own to the restaurant because they are organic and he believes the eggs at the club contain antibiotics.
She reluctantly agrees with Larry’s claim that the chef is aware of his egg allergy and prefers to serve breakfast to him and his entire table after 11 a.m. The other patrons of the restaurant are envious and irate.
As they sat there, Irma tells Larry that she and he should go to couples counseling because her sponsor, “a big bear of a man who looks like Hoss from Bonanza,” encouraged it. She justifies the proposal by citing her rehabilitation and demands that he attend treatment to help her through it when he objects.
In his mind’s eye, Larry sees a visual of his relationship countdown calendar with Irma’s sponsor’s face superimposed over it. The floating face says, “6 months, Larry,” and Larry gives in. They’re attending counseling. (And, as we find out later, this inspires Jeff and Susie, who will also be attending).
