Cobra Kai is set to return to Netflix on Thursday, July 18 with the first part of its sixth and final season. The trailer suggests that tensions are high as the series builds toward its conclusion.
“We’ve been through a lot to get to this point, but now we’re finally on the same page,” Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) says as the trailer begins, teasing the competition that’s to come for his and Johnny Lawrence’s (William Zabka) students.
“We may have settled things in the Valley, but now we have to be ready for whatever the world throws at us.”
In the upcoming season of Cobra Kai, as the students gear up for the Sekai Taikai, tensions rise between Daniel and Johnny due to their differing approaches to training.
“Our strength is we teach both styles equally. Don’t jeopardize that balance, man,” Daniel reminds his former rival.
“Since when do I run sh** by you?” Johnny asks.
In answer, Daniel reveals that they “have no idea what we’re up against.”
In Cobra Kai’s final season, Karate Kid alum John Kreese, played by Martin Kove, returns to the series as the sensei of a rival dojo, adding further intensity to the storyline.
“Only through pain does a champion reveal itself,” John tells his students in the trailer.
In the final season of Cobra Kai, amidst the rivalries, Daniel and Chozen Toguchi (played by Yuji Okumoto) make a significant discovery related to their former sensei, uncovering another hidden treasure.
“Miyagi San buried secrets for a reason,” Chozen says in the trailer as Daniel discovers a box hidden below the floor boards of Miyagi Do. “If we open, anything is possible.”
In the first part of Cobra Kai’s final season, the students and senseis are dealing with the aftermath of a major fight that concluded season 5, which led to Terry Silver (played by Thomas Ian Griffith) being taken away in handcuffs. Now, they face decisions about whether and how they will compete in the Sekai Taikai, the world championships of karate.
In January 2023, Cobra Kai’s creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg announced that the beloved spinoff series would be concluding after its sixth season.
“Reacquainting the world with the Karate Kid universe has been our humble honor,” they wrote in a statement on Instagram.
“It has enabled us to play sensei, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We’ve never once taken this opportunity for granted.”
“Our Day 1 goal with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined. While this may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger,” the statement continued.
“This fandom is the BEST on the planet and we hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the line. Because as we all know: Cobra Kai Never Dies.”
The first part of Cobra Kai season 6 premieres Thursday, July 18 on Netflix, followed by part 2 on Thursday, November 28. The third and final part is scheduled to premiere in 2025, marking the conclusion of the series.
