One of last summer’s biggest dark fantasy anime is finally making its return. Clevatess Season 2, officially titled Clevatess II: Majū no Ō to Itsuwari no Yūsha Denshō, is set to premiere in Japan on July 8.

Ahead of its debut, the production committee has released a new promotional video showcasing fresh footage, while also revealing additional cast members and the series’ opening theme, giving fans a closer look at what’s in store for the highly anticipated sequel.

Mayu Maeshima Returns With the New Opening Theme

Returning singer Mayu Maeshima is once again performing the anime’s opening theme. Her new song, “Foreshadow,” plays throughout the latest promotional video, maintaining the musical identity that helped define the first season.

Alongside the trailer, the production team also released a Season 1 recap video. The digest summarizes the key events of the first season, making it easier for returning viewers to catch up before the new episodes begin.

With both a new opening song and a recap video now available, fans have everything they need to prepare for the July premiere.

New Voice Cast Expands the Story

Season 2 introduces several new characters to its growing cast. Newly announced voice actors include Yuichiro Umeda as Rei, Yurina Kikuchi as Merrymerry, Tatsumaru Tachibana as Andrew, Ryota Suzuki as Tegel, and Hiromu Mineta as Rion.

The newest addition is veteran voice actor Tomokazu Sugita, who joins the cast as Laswell. Sugita’s long career and recognizable performances make him one of the most notable additions to the sequel.

Returning cast members, including Yuichi Nakamura as Clevatess, will continue leading the story alongside the new characters as the world grows larger and more complex.

The Main Production Team Returns

The sequel brings back the same creative staff responsible for the first season. Kiyotaka Taguchi returns as director, while Keigo Koyanagi once again handles series composition.

Soichiro Sako returns as character designer, and Nobuaki Nobusawa is back to compose the music. Animation production also remains with Lay-duce, providing visual consistency between seasons.

The only major staff addition is Natsuko Kondo, who joins the project as sub-character designer, helping expand the growing cast while maintaining the series’ established art style.

The Manga Behind the Anime

Clevatess is based on the fantasy manga by Yuji Iwahara, best known for King of Thorn and his character design work on Darker than Black. The manga first launched on the LINE Manga app in August 2020 before later expanding to Kadokawa’s Comic Alive+ website in 2024.

The story follows Clevatess, one of the most feared rulers of magical beasts, whose life changes after he unexpectedly becomes responsible for raising a human baby. This unusual premise helped the series stand out from other dark fantasy titles.

Its mix of action, world-building, and emotional storytelling earned the anime a dedicated fanbase, leading to a quick Season 2 renewal.

Why Fans Are Excited for Season 2

One of the biggest changes in Season 2 is its new setting. Instead of continuing the large-scale conflict from the first season, the story moves to the Divine Academy Solsein, where Clevatess and his companions begin an undercover mission.

This shift introduces a fresh magic-academy storyline while continuing the larger mysteries surrounding the world and its characters. Early previews suggest the sequel will balance school-life elements with the darker fantasy themes that defined Season 1.

With a returning production team, an expanded cast, a new opening theme, and a different direction for the story, Clevatess Season 2 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated fantasy anime premieres of the Summer 2026 season.
