Disappointing news for fans as Classroom of the Elite Season 3 has encountered an unexpected delay. Originally slated for release in 2023, Kadokawa announced that the premiere of Season 3 had been pushed back to January 2024 due to “various circumstances,” leaving fans eagerly waiting for 2024.
With the second season ending in September 2022, fans were patiently waiting for the next installment but are now left questioning why the next season is delayed. While the exact reasons behind the delay have not been officially disclosed, it is not uncommon for anime productions to face situations that can impact release schedules, especially when Covid-19 has been affecting productions of other anime series.
Despite the temporary setback, we can still hold out hope that Season 3 will deliver a satisfying watch as the team can now improve on flaws or make changes to make this season worth the wait. The series debuted in 2017, followed by the second season in 2022. As we excitedly count down the days until January 2024, let’s take a look at what made Classroom of the Elite so popular.

Classroom of the Elite: Details
Classroom of the Elite debuted as a light novel series written by Shōgo Kinugasa and illustrated by Shunsaku Tomose. It was originally published from May 2015 to September 2019 under Media Factory’s MF Bunko J imprint and later got a manga adaptation by Yuyu Ichino.

The Synopsis of the Series
Koudo Ikusei Senior High School comes off as a utopian institution with unlimited freedom and a high national ranking. Is this really true? Nope, it’s just a facade. The school differentiates its students into four classes, A through D, based on their academic merit, and only the top classes receive preferential treatment.
Kiyotaka Ayanokouji finds himself in Class D, which is reserved for the school’s underachievers or “inferiors.” Here, he meets Suzune Horikita, a shy and ambitious student who believes she ended up in Class D due to an error and wishes to climb up to Class A. Class placement is permanent, but class rankings can change based on academic performance, giving lower-ranked students a chance to rise.
In Class D, any method can be used to reach the top. Will Kiyotaka be able to achieve this greatness and climb to the highest rank?
Worth a Watch?
Classroom of the Elite fits in with Japan’s intensely demanding educational system, portraying the complexities and difficulties in Japanese schools. This series not only talks about academic pressure but also about surviving in the real world. By studying, these students rise up the school ranks and display dominance, much like the societal culture.
The animation, storytelling, and setting are so perfectly done that it doesn’t feel like other high-school anime but more of an academic shounen anime (as funny as it sounds). Though character personalities are common, it doesn’t seem to be a negative element in Classroom of the Elite. Instead, the way these common traits are used and shown in the series is very interesting.
With a great storyline, good animation, and music, this series is worth a watch. You can stream the first and second seasons on Crunchyroll and Funimation!
