Manga artist Yumiko Igarashi illustrated Georgie, the classic romance and coming-of-age manga returning in a new English edition.

Classic shojo manga Georgie is returning for a new North American release, with publishers Manga Mavericks Books and Omoi announcing plans to bring the series to digital and print readers in 2027. Originally serialized in Japan in 1982, the manga was created by writer Mann Izawa and illustrator Yumiko Igarashi, whose work also includes Candy Candy. The new edition will first launch digitally through Omoi in Spring 2027, followed by a print release from Manga Mavericks Books in August 2027.

The announcement, dated October 26, 2026, introduces a deluxe edition aimed at readers aged 13 and older. The first volume will contain 480 pages, with a suggested retail price of $9.99 for digital and $49.99 for print. The publishers plan to release the print edition as two deluxe hardcover volumes in JIS B5 format, bringing the classic coming-of-age story back to readers in a premium physical edition.

Georgie Follows a Young Girl’s Journey to Discover Her Roots

Set in the Australian countryside, Georgie follows a lively young girl living with her mother and two older brothers. Her life takes a new direction after she meets Lowell, a young English nobleman whose arrival leads her toward England and a journey to uncover her family origins.

The manga originally ran in Shogakukan’s Sho-Comi magazine from 1982 to 1984. It remains a notable classic in the shojo genre, blending romance, family relationships, and coming-of-age themes. The English-language release will make the series available to a new generation of readers while giving longtime fans an opportunity to revisit Igarashi and Izawa’s work.

Igarashi shared a message for readers as part of the announcement, describing the story as one built around different forms of love.

“Georgie is a story I created by gathering the many different kinds of love surrounding her, like flower petals,”

the manga artist said.

The Georgie Deluxe Edition Volume 1 brings Mann Izawa and Yumiko Igarashi’s classic shojo manga to English-language readers in 2027.

She also encouraged readers to reflect on the love they would want to give Georgie or receive from her, ending her message with a warm note to the series’ supporters:

“And to all of you readers who love Georgie so much, I love you!”
