The fight between the good and bad may not always be black and white, and revolving around this concept, the Romanian series, Clanul (The Clan) was introduced. The plot of the show is mostly inspired by a Turkish drama that goes by the name Icerde.
Clanul was seen for the first time on television on September 19th, 2022. Created by PRO TV, the show stars Denis Hanganu as Tudor, the main protagonist. The series has been praised for its unconventional plot, although there’s a lot of criticism around the cast and stereotypical scenes. Despite this, Clanul continues to provide a plot that’s not usually seen on Romanian television.
Tudor, an aspiring police officer, was ready to leave the Police academy and start his life as a policeman. Unbeknownst to him, his life was about to turn upside down. When he caught Commissioner Costoiu red-handed, Tudor’s first response was to inform the higher authorities of the corruption that has been lurking in the academy. Although his intention was good, the law could not help him, and he was soon expelled from the Police Academy.
Soon after his leave from the Police school, Tudor was made to go to jail due to evil schemes by the likes of commissioner Costoiu. In prison, he came across all kinds of people and realized that there are many more people like him who have wrongfully been punished for things they didn’t do. He came across Tatutu, a Mafia boss, that invited him to join his group. He had to leave his dreams of being a police officer and even ended up breaking his mother, Luminita’s heart.
While things were unpleasant for Tudor, there was someone else who had an entirely different life yet was able to achieve the one thing Tudor truly wanted. David had grown up homeless, with no one to look after him. He somehow ends up in the Police academy and completes the course, even joining the corrupt Costoiu’s team as a core member.

Clanul Season 2 Episode 1: Recap
The show has featured the two distinct individuals coming across each other and immediately hating what they did for a living. Tudor was in the mafia yet had a good heart and clean intentions. David on the other hand was a policeman, but the way his life was growing up made him have a negative outlook on life. When Commissioner Costoiu targets Tudor once again, David makes sure that he obeys his orders.
This leads to the start of the battle between Tudor and David. With constant strategies, betrayals, and shootouts, the duo tries everything to bring about their opponent’s downfall. Love also develops in their lives separately, but with the constant war and scheming, the story mostly focuses on the relationship between the two main characters.
By the end of the first season, we were able to see Commissioner Costoiu finally pay for the crimes he had committed. The second season began with the continuation of David and Tudor’s war, with the trailer showing them holding guns against each other, but there’s going to be a new development this season, which may make them finally come to better terms.
