Claudette Dion, Celine Dion’s sister, has provided a moving update on the music icon’s battle with stiff person syndrome. Claudette disclosed to Canada’s 7 Jours that Celine, 55, has become less in control of her muscles and that her condition has gotten worse.
Claudette expressed her sorrow and highlighted Celine’s discipline and hard work throughout her life, which were ingrained by their mother’s guidance to succeed in all that she does.
Claudette revealed that Celine has a great desire to perform again, even with the difficult circumstances and unknown future. Claudette conceded that returning to the stage is the ultimate aim in Celine’s aspirations as well as theirs, though the exact role is still unknown.
Celine Dion disclosed her incurable neurological disorder
Celine Dion announced in December 2022 that she would have to postpone the remainder of her “Courage” world tour because of a progressive and incurable neurological disorder that affects her heart and vocal cords, among other muscles.
Celine’s sister Claudette acknowledged the special challenge presented by this uncommon condition, pointing out that not much research has been done because it’s such an uncommon case.
Speaking with 7 Jours, Claudette revealed that the disorder, which affects muscles including the heart and vocal cords, has hampered scientific research because it is a one-in-a-million case.
She conveyed the frustration of stiff person syndrome sufferers, saying that many have given up on finding a treatment. Claudette also spoke of the tremendous support that the Dion family has received via Fondation Mama Dion, a charity that helps others who are going through similar struggles by providing them with advice.
With so many cards, gifts, and blessed crucifixes from well-wishers wishing Celine well as she battles this difficult illness, the foundation has grown to be a place of consolation.
Celine’s condition has no definite treatment
As for the prayers and well wishes, Claudette told Le Journal de Montréal that Celine’s condition hasn’t improved all that much.
Although the Dion family has worked with some of the best researchers in the field, Claudette stated in an earlier interview that they have had difficulty finding a medication that works, as reported by the Daily Mail. She did, however, stress how important it is to hold onto hope in the face of these difficulties.
According to Claudette’s interview with 7 Jours, Celine made a rare public appearance on October 30 at an NHL game in Las Vegas. Prior to this, she hadn’t performed in two months. During the event, the “I’m Alive” singer brought her sons backstage to snap pictures with the hockey players.
