CBS has announced exciting news for fans of its television dramas. The network has renewed several shows, including another season of NCIS: Sydney. This decision comes even though the show received mixed reactions from some viewers. Currently, it holds a 28% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, the series performed well in ratings when it premiered in the fall of 2023. NCIS: Sydney recently returned for its second season, and CBS remains committed to its success. The network has also renewed NCIS and its upcoming prequel series, NCIS: Origins.
NCIS is one of the longest-running television series ever. Over the years, it has introduced six spin-offs, expanding its universe. NCIS: Sydney is unique because it is the first spin-off set outside the United States. Created by Morgan O’Neill, the show follows a team of U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) agents and Australian Federal Police (AFP) officers. Together, they solve naval crimes and work on high-stakes cases.
The series stars Olivia Swann as NCIS Special Agent-in-Charge Michelle Mackey, who leads the team. Todd Lasance plays AFP Second-in-Command JD Dempsey, while Sean Sagar takes on the role of NCIS Special Agent DeShawn Jackson.
Tuuli Narkle plays AFP Liaison Officer Constable Evie Cooper, and Mavournee Hazel appears as AFP forensic scientist Blue Gleeson. Rounding out the cast is William McInnes, who plays AFP forensic pathologist Roy Penrose.
The NCIS franchise has continued to grow since its debut in 2003. Some of its popular spin-offs include NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, and NCIS: Hawaiʻi. The newest addition, NCIS: Origins, will focus on the early career of Leroy Jethro Gibbs in 1991.
The character, originally portrayed by Mark Harmon, will now be played by Austin Stowell. This series will show Gibbs’ journey before he became one of the franchise’s most beloved figures.

Could There Be a Crossover with ‘NCIS: Sydney’?
The setting of NCIS: Sydney highlights the global reach of the franchise. Many fans wonder whether there will be a crossover between NCIS: Sydney and other NCIS series. The show has already referenced NCIS Director Leon Vance, played by Rocky Carroll. However, making a crossover happen is not simple.

Showrunner Morgan O’Neill explained the challenges of bringing characters from other NCIS series into NCIS: Sydney. He shared his thoughts, saying:
“It’s a challenge for us. We’re not just in the studio next door. We can’t just pull Rocky Carroll out and drag him on our set. It’s not quite that easy. But I would say the great thrill of a franchise like NCIS is that it’s an interconnected world.
Fans love that it is, and we’re certainly trying to work out ways where we can satisfy the desire for a kind of crossover or an interaction of sorts. So that may be happening in our future, I suppose, is the best way to put it.”
For now, fans can enjoy new episodes of NCIS: Sydney every Friday on CBS. Previous episodes are available for streaming on Paramount+.
