Capcom has shared new details about the future of the Mega Man franchise, confirming that it plans to expand the series’ reach as it approaches its 40th anniversary in 2027.

The comments came during the company’s latest shareholder meeting, where executives outlined their long-term vision for one of Capcom’s most recognizable gaming franchises.

Capcom outlines its plans for Mega Man

Responding to a shareholder question about the series’ future, Capcom described Mega Man as an “important IP” and reiterated that Mega Man: Dual Override remains on track for release in 2027.

The company stated,

“The Mega Man series is an important IP that will mark its 40th anniversary in 2027. Beyond our announcement at the end of last year that a new title in the series, Mega Man: Dual Override, is scheduled for release in 2027, we will continue working to communicate the appeal of the series to an even broader audience, including through merchandise initiatives.”

The statement suggests Capcom is looking beyond game releases by investing in merchandise and other promotional efforts to strengthen the brand’s global presence.

Capcom has already begun celebrating the franchise in recent months. Earlier this year, the publisher released Mega Man Star Force: Legacy Collection and featured the Blue Bomber in crossover content for Street Fighter 6, keeping the series active ahead of its milestone anniversary.

Beyond Mega Man, Capcom continues to expand several of its major franchises. The company is developing a new expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds, working on the remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica, and plans to release Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen and Onimusha: Way of the Sword for Nintendo Switch 2 later this year.

For Mega Man fans, however, the biggest takeaway is that Capcom views the Blue Bomber as a key part of its future and intends to introduce the franchise to an even wider audience in the years ahead.
