The Carolina Hurricanes faced elimination in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference Second Round matchup against the New York Rangers. Coach Rod Brind’Amour shuffled his lines, hoping to spark a struggling power play.
Defenseman Brady Skjei, not usually on the top unit, answered the call with a game-winning goal late in the third period.
Carolina Staves Off Elimination in Tight Game 4
The Hurricanes got off to a strong start, scoring twice in the first period from their fourth line and top scorer Sebastian Aho.
The Rangers battled back, however, tying the game in the second period. With their backs against the wall, Carolina didn’t crumble. Skjei’s power-play goal, his first of the series, secured a crucial 4-3 victory and forced a Game 5 back in New York.
The Hurricanes are still major underdogs, but they’ve proven they can compete and will look to win the day again on Monday night.
Despite facing elimination, the Hurricanes showed resilience. They got contributions from all four lines, with unlikely goal scorers Evgeny Kuznetsov and Stefan Noesen finding the net in the first period.
Even when the Rangers tied the game in the second, Carolina refused to give up. Skjei’s timely goal is a sign that the Hurricanes won’t go down without a fight. They’ll look to carry this momentum into Game 5 and extend the series.
