After making contentious remarks about the trans community about the identity of Uvalde elementary school gunman Salvador Ramos, Candace Owens recently found herself in hot water.
Nearly 19 children and two adults were killed on May 24 when 18-year-old Ramos began firing at Robb Elementary School in Texas. During a subsequent standoff with law officers, the shooter was fatally shot. Unfounded allegations about the shooter becoming an immigrant & identifying as trans started spreading on social media soon after the shooting. To perpetuate the myth that the shooter belonged to the community, it was later discovered that pictures of two additional transgender women were being shared online as a claimed photo of Ramos.
Similar accusations were made on Twitter by conservative influencer Candace Owens, who claimed that Ramos’ preference for “cross-dressing” was evidence that he was “mentally ill” & capable of carrying out the shooting. Candace Owens discussed the name of the deceased shooter Salvador Ramos on Twitter after the Texas Robb Elementary School massacre. Candace Owens discussed the name of the deceased shooter Salvador Ramos on Twitter after the Texas Robb Elementary School massacre. She claimed that people should have seen the teen’s mental illness symptoms by observing the teenager’s attire. After that, Owens brought up the supposed cross-dressing images of Ramos and said that a grown man looking like a woman is a “glaring indicator of mental disorder.” She continued by saying that while adults deny such mental health disorders, all children are at risk:
After her remarks provoked immediate debate online, Owens clarified that she had never shared the fictitious image that purported to show Ramos as a transgender person: “I never shared any fantastical vision of the shooter. This plot is entirely fictional. But, unfortunately, to silence me regarding mental illness and the dangerous spread of gender ideology, individuals keep circulating a false photo and pretending it’s the one I’m referring to.
After that, the influencer asserted that the image of the Texas shooter wearing women’s clothing had not been refuted by the media but had instead been “conflated with the clear online scam” ideas of a “man in a skirt in front of a trans flag.”
Tweets In Response To Candace Owens’ Remarks Regarding The Texas Shooter
Social media users were horrified by the heartbreaking Texas school shooting tragedy, and many turned to online forums to express their sorrow at the loss of innocent victims. In addition, unfounded allegations that the gunman killed was transgender, and an immigrant prompted a significant internet discussion.
Several individuals responded to political analyst Candace Owens’ contentious remarks about the shooter’s claimed cross-dressing images as indicators of mental illness when she weighed in on the situation. As comments poured in online, a transwoman from Georgia named Sam said that Reddit users had commented on a photo she had posted three months earlier and informed her that the pictures were being circulated on social media as a purported photo of the Texas shooter.
Sam allegedly informed NBC that the images were obtained from her private Instagram page & that, as a result of their public exposure, she had experienced threats and abuse. Meanwhile, there is no concrete proof that Salvador Ramos, the gunman in Uvalde, was a member of the transgender community.
