The wholesome and light-hearted anime “Buddy Daddies,” about two assassins adopting a cute little abandoned girl, takes an unusually dark and emotional turn. Fans are heartbroken after Miri is separated from her papas, and it is quite evident that nobody predicted this turn of events.
“Buddy Daddies” has gained a reputation for being an extremely cute slice-of-life anime, but there have been dark undertones to the show all along. The show has managed to showcase child neglect, dealing with PTSD and feelings of regret, and the harsh dynamics between a parent who expects too much from their child.
Even though the anime is full of life and cute moments, the characters have all suffered from feelings of loss and depression. Kazuki, Rei, and even Miri have come a long way and finally starting on a path to lead a more fulfilling life.
The utmost care and love Rei and Kazuki show for Miri is endearing to watch, especially the aloof Rei who didn’t seem interested in taking care of a child at first. The bar owner also takes an unusual interest in Miri and allows Rei and Kazuki to keep her with them, offering to watch Miri when they are out on missions.
Miri’s character is also quite likable with her enthusiastic and soft demeanor, and her love for both her papas is quite obvious, even though she doesn’t realize that neither of them is her true father.
Buddy Daddies: Episode 10 Recap
In the previous episode, Miri’s mother makes an appearance again, disrupting the peaceful life she had been living with Kazuki and Rei. Misaki shows up at Miri’s daycare, demanding that her daughter come along with her. Rei and Kazuki take Misaki back to their apartment, where Misaki reveals that she is suffering from throat cancer and she had to quit singing, due to which her boyfriend kicked her out.
Misaki hinted at knowing about Rei and Kazuki’s line of work and that she wanted to take Miri away before she was exposed to any more danger because of both of them. Rei and Kazuki get to know that it was Kyuutaro who told Misaki about Miri’s whereabouts and what kind of work Kazuki and Rei do.
Kyuutaro does so because Rei’s father, the head of an assassin group, is out for Miri and Kazuki’s blood since he thinks they are the reason Rei has left the family.
Kyuutaro also reminds them that neither of them is Miri’s real father and that they are actually the killers of her real dad. Rei and Kazuki realize that they don’t have many options left, and it is for the best for Miri to lead a safe life. After a final day of them hanging out together as a family, Kazuki and Rei finally say their goodbyes to Miri as Misaki takes her away to her house.

Buddy Daddies: Episode 11 Spoilers
Rei and Kazuki seem to be coming to terms with losing Miri and deciding to leave their line of work to get her back. It is obvious that if they want out of the profession, they will have to betray the people they work for. Rei will have to betray his cold and unempathetic father, who will be out to get blood, and Kyuutaro might not like it either.
Both of them have a long road ahead of them if they decide to pursue their plans to get Miri back and live a safe life. Maybe a safe life is nothing but an illusion for Rei and Kazuki, who have lost more than they were willing to in such a profession.
