BTS’s J-Hope recently appeared on the YouTube show MMTG, where he opened up about his life as a Sandokki—a Korean slang term for someone who works tirelessly with persistence. Host JaeJae shared a story that perfectly captured J-Hope’s relentless work ethic and dedication to BTS’s success.
In 2020, BTS reached a historic milestone when their hit song Dynamite debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The achievement was monumental, and naturally, the members were eager to celebrate. During their celebratory livestream, the group even considered taking the day off from practice. However, they knew that the final decision rested with J-Hope.
The six members hilariously sat far away from him, clearly hoping to get out of practice for the day. But J-Hope had other plans. Instead of agreeing to skip, he responded with a simple but firm, “We’ll see after.” His words left no room for doubt—practice was still on the schedule.
J-Hope’s reasoning was simple: BTS was in the middle of preparing for something important. While skipping one day might not have seemed like a big deal, he understood the value of consistency.

As a result, despite their major achievement, the group went ahead with their scheduled practice session.
Jungkook, known for his emotional honesty, nearly teared up as he recalled that day. He explained that, despite their No. 1 ranking on Billboard, they treated it like any other day and committed themselves to their usual practice routine.
“On the day when our song was number 1 on Billboard, we did a live stream and then went to practice right after… so there’s nothing special.” — Jungkook
Even J-Hope was surprised by Jungkook’s puppy dog eyes, but it only reinforced the fact that their team’s dedication remained unwavering, no matter how big the success.
While J-Hope is often seen as the leader when it comes to practice, he emphasized that all BTS members collectively make decisions. That day might have been a tough choice for them, but their hard work and determination always pay off in the end.
J-Hope’s mindset as a Sandokki is one of the key reasons why BTS continues to dominate the global music scene. His persistence, discipline, and unwavering commitment inspire both his fellow members and millions of fans worldwide.
