On 19 December 2023, Britney Spears revealed the aftermath of the fire that she unintentionally set in April 2020, which resulted in the complete destruction of her home gym.
The 42-year-old music legend posted a photo of her scorched gym equipment in her Los Angeles mansion on Instagram on Tuesday morning. 3 years ago, she had informed her fans that the devastating fire was a complete accident.
“Reflecting back remembering when I burnt the gym down in 2020,” is the caption for the photo, which she posted to her 42.7 million Instagram followers on Tuesday. The floor with various dumbbells, kettlebells, weights, treadmills, spin bikes and other exercise equipment are all burned and covered in ash as seen in the picture of the gym.
Spears’ response to the accident in 2020 was posted on social media: “Yes …. I burnt it down. I walked past the door to the gym and flames, BOOM !!!!!! By the Grace of God the alarm went off after that and yippy hoorah nobody got hurt. Unfortunately, now I have only two pieces of equipment left lol and a one-sided mirror gym!!!!! But it could be much worse so I’m grateful. Pssss I like working out better outside anyways!!!!”
History with Fire Accidents
At the time, along with a video showing the damage caused by the fire, she also informed her fans that “I haven’t been here in for like six months because I burned my gym down, unfortunately. I had two candles and … yeah, one thing led to another and I burned it down.”
Spears has a history of candle-related mishaps. In 2002, for example, People magazine reported that the pop diva nearly set her New York City holiday apartment on fire after unintentionally leaving a candle lit while out shopping.
Citing another incident, the story also claims that Britney’s candle obsession had caused another earlier fire in the family’s Louisiana home, as revealed by her mother Lynne Spears.
