Reiji confronts his mom about the abuse she put him through. She has a mental break, and she runs into oncoming traffic. She got struck by a vehicle and has been in a coma ever since. Nagi came to visit Reiji as she wanted to talk to him again. They are at an impasse as they want to be together, but their circumstances are not allowing them to be. They go to sleep for the night
For some context, Boy’s Abyss follows the life of Kurose Reiji as he tries to live his life in their town out in the boonies. He had to go through several traumatic events as he grew up. His father was abusive and up and left one day, his grandmother is suffering from dementia and needs full-time care, his older brother is shut-in and tends to have explosive outbursts; and his mother is a nurse who is struggling to keep up.
In his hectic home life, Reiji is stuck picking up the pieces all the time. As time goes by, Reiji comes to realize not everything is as what they seem to be. It is revealed that his father, who allegedly left him, was murdered by one of his friends, and they kept it as a secret all this time. His mother is revealed to be overprotective, manipulating him to stay with her forever. His life changed drastically after he met Aoe Nagi, his favourite Idol.
At that moment, Reiji received a call from Detective Ishibashi, letting him know that his mother had woken up from her coma. Reiji informs Nagi and tells her how the detective will come by around 9 AM, and if he finds her with him, there will be trouble. Nagi tells him how she wants to meet his mother. But knowing that the detective was coming, they decided to go see her immediately.

The Nurse at the hospital tells Reiji that his mother opened her eyes earlier in the morning. She looked around for a bit and then drifted back into sleep. The nurse tells him that her prognosis is unclear at the moment and that he should wait for the Doctor’s opinion. After the nurse leaves, Nagi opens her bag, takes out one of Esemori’s books, and puts it into her arms. This wakes up Yuuko from her sleep.
Nagi introduces herself as Akira Nozoe’s wife. She tells Yuuko how he is suffering from cancer and is on his deathbed. Nagi tells her that she is giving Nozoe back to her. And asks her to kindly accompany him into the afterlife. Yuuko closes her eyes one last time as Reiji and Nagi watch on, clutching the book close to her chest and drifting off into eternal slumber.
