Award-winning director and producer Chuck Lorre’s film Bob Hearts Abishola is a love story that transcends barriers and honors the beauty of immigrant life in America. The series, which is set in Detroit, centers on Bob, portrayed by Billy Gardell, a middle-aged businessman who specializes in compression socks.
He unexpectedly falls in love with Abishola, played by Folake Olowofoyeku, who happens to be both his cardiac nurse and a Nigerian immigrant. Bob’s unwavering determination to win Abishola over despite early setbacks results in an unexpected bond between the two.
In Bob Hearts Abishola, a middle-aged compression sock merchant from Detroit, recuperating from a heart attack, he unintentionally falls in love with his cardiac nurse, a Nigerian immigrant, and sets out to win her over.
Unfazed by Abishola’s initial lack of interest or the stark contrasts between their upbringings, Bob is determined to win her heart in this humorous look at life as an immigrant in America.
Recap
Abishola is having trouble with college-bound Dele in the first game of the season as he rebels against his parents’ long-standing expectations. “Dele’s individuation from the traditional Nigerian trajectory—his pursuit of a future that might not be the one that Abishola mapped out for him—is a big part of this season,” adds Ross.
“How Abishola handles having raised a Nigerian child, but a Nigerian-American child, is another significant factor.” There will be more tension between mother and son when Dele’s father Tayo returns. According to Ross, “Tayo has always represented the more traditional outlook on how you might raise a kid.”
Ross hints, “Olu knows there’s a backstory to Tunde’s accident, and Bob and Abishola will find out.” “They all work together to help Tunde tackle a deeper issue.” The Wheeler family is also undergoing significant transformation, starting with Christina, Bob’s sister, who plans to begin a family of her own.
Yashere tells TVLine, “Christina decides that she wants to [embark on] the IVF journey and have a baby— ostensibly by herself.” Thus, her longtime admirer Kofo might be motivated to “let his feelings be known” as a result.
