Oricon just released the total number of manga sales sold in the year 2023, and surprisingly, Blue Lock tops the list with a huge margin. It is very big news for the manga community as it is the first time any sports manga has topped the list in the most-selling manga list of the year.
Blue Lock has been really successful over the years, and it may be because of the huge success of its anime, which was released back in October 2022. The anime really brought lots of viewers to the manga, and I’m also one of them.
Well, I’m not saying it is the best sports manga of time, but Blue Lock has done something that we don’t usually see in the sports genre. Most sports manga/anime have the concept of friendship and love, whereas Blue Lock is like, “I will do what I want.”
Yearly Oricon Sales Ranking 2023
10. Kingdom
Beginning with the tenth position, we have Kingdom, with over 3,207,691 copies sold in 2023. Kingdom was really great his year, to be honest. The Battle Between Riboku and Akou’s Armies was really insane.
9. Tokyo Revengers
Even after ending the serialization on November 16, 2022, Tokyo Revengers still managed to take the ninth spot in the best-selling list with over 3,218,117 copies sold. It even ranked in the second position in the 2022 list,
8. My Hero Academia
In the eighth position, we have My Hero Academia, with over 3,528,423 copies sold in the year 2023. My Hero Academia has been really amazing this year with its final arc against One for All and Shigaraki. We even got Bakugo back in the story.
7. Spy × Family
Spy x Family claims the seventh position in the list, with over 4,326,425 copies sold over the year. Surprisingly, Spy x Family only released two volumes this year, one in April 2023 and the other one in October 2023.
6. Slam Dunk
With over 4,968,484 copies sold in 2023, Slam Dunk claims the sixth position in the best-selling manga list. The shocking thing is that Slam Dunk didn’t even release any new volume this year, 2023. All the sales are from the manga released in previous years.
5. Chainsaw Man
In fifth position, we have Chainsaw Man, with over 5,348,618 copies sold this year. Chainsaw Man released three volumes in 2023, which helped it to reach the top 5 list.
4. Oshi no Ko
Oshi no Ko secures the fourth position with over 5,413,091 copies sold in 2023. Oshi no Ko released four volumes this year, and the success of its anime has really helped its manga sales. The manga is also said to be the final arc.
3. One Piece
Now, we have entered the top three segments, and in third position, we have One Piece, with over 7,197,533 copies sold. One Piece also released four volumes this year, and the story is said to be in its final saga.
2. Jujutsu Kaisen
Jujutsu Kaisen managed to secure the second position in the list, with over 8,541,411 copies sold in four volumes. Jujutsu Kaisen has been really amazing this year with the fight between Gojo and Sukuna; however, it was also sad with that.
1. Blue Lock
And ladies and gentlemen, we have our winner of the best-selling manga of 2023, Blue Lock. Blue Lock sold over 10.527,146 copies and released only four volumes this year. As I said earlier, it is the first time that any sports manga has claimed the top position.
Not even mangas like Slam Dunk, Ao Ashi, and Haikyuu have done in the last 20 years. Fun fact: One Piece had a strike of 12 years for becoming the best-selling manga from 2007 to 2018, and Demon Slayer was the one breaking its strike in 2019 & 2020.
The Jujutsu Kaisen was the best-selling manga in 2021 & 2022, and now we have Blue Lock in 2023. So, let’s see if Blue Lock will be able to maintain the top position or not.
