Kazue Kato, the creator of Blue Exorcist, announced that her manga is going on hiatus due to health reasons.
After a recent routine check-up, Kato was diagnosed with an illness that required surgery, which was successful.
Although she has been released from the hospital, her recovery will take some time, leading to the break.
The manga did not appear in the September issue, and the October issue will also skip, but it is set to return in December.
Kato has reassured fans that her illness is not life-threatening, though she has chosen not to share more details about it at this time.
Kato’s Blue Exorcist has experienced a few breaks in the past, including a hiatus from July 2021 to May 2022 and another from January to May 2023.
The manga took a one-month break in 2023 while Kato recovered from COVID-19. Despite these pauses, the series has continued to engage readers, and its 31st compiled volume was recently released in Japan in June 2023.
The story follows Rin Okumura, who discovers he is the son of Satan and begins training to become an exorcist to defeat his father while keeping his true identity a secret.
The Blue Exorcist series has also inspired multiple adaptations, including a 25-episode anime in 2011, a film in 2012, and another anime in 2017.
Most recently, a new anime adaptation, Blue Exorcist: Shimane Illuminati Saga, premiered in January 2023.
Fans can look forward to more, as the next sequel, Blue Exorcist: Beyond the Snow Saga, will premiere in October 2024, followed by The Blue Night Saga in early 2025. Crunchyroll will stream the upcoming anime as it airs.
