BLACKPINK’s Lisa has been announced as a co-headliner for the 2024 Global Citizen Festival, marking her first solo performance at a music festival. Global Citizen, the leading international advocacy organization dedicated to ending extreme poverty, revealed Lisa will join an impressive lineup including Post Malone, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, Rauw Alejandro, and Global Citizen Ambassador Hugh Jackman, who will host the event on September 28 in New York City’s Central Park.
Lisa, who recently released her new single “Rockstar,” will bring her dynamic stage presence to this high-profile event, aiming to draw attention to Global Citizen’s mission. The festival coincides with the UN General Assembly in New York, emphasizing the need for global cooperation to address critical issues like poverty, education, and healthcare.
As part of the festival’s initiatives, Global Citizen is advocating for significant contributions from governments and private sectors to address the urgent needs of marginalized communities. For instance, they call on various governments to bridge a $500 million funding gap for Education Cannot Wait, supporting children’s education in crisis-affected areas. Additionally, they seek increased funding for GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, to immunize 500 million children and save over 8 million lives.
Other organizations set to benefit include CGIAR, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, IFAD, and UNFPA. The festival’s broader goals include defeating poverty, defending the planet, and ensuring human rights are respected globally, especially for advocates and activists.
Katie Hill, SVP and Head of Music, Entertainment, and Artist Relations at Global Citizen, expressed excitement about Lisa’s participation. “Lisa is not only an incredible performer but also a powerful advocate. We look forward to welcoming Lisa and her fans, Lilies and Blinks, to Central Park in September. Join us by taking action on the Global Citizen app, and together we can make a huge impact to end extreme poverty.”
This festival promises to be a landmark event, blending music and advocacy to inspire action and drive change for a better world.
