Kwon Ji Yong, better known by his alias G-Dragon, has recently come forward with a letter that has left an impact on the fans. The singer, who began his career in the early 2000s to this day, is considered to be the King of K-pop.
On 21st December 2023, G-Dragon’s new agency, Galaxy Corporation, announced a sudden press conference that instigated confusion among the public. Before this, it was planned that the idol himself would come up and clear the allegations.
However, as much of the public opinion was still scattered, unsure of what was the truth, his company decided to take a step forward and hold the emergency press conference. The goal was to clear G-Dragon’s name from any further suspicion and rebuild his career.
The press conference was held in the JW Marriott Hotel, and the Director of Galaxy Corporation, Jo Sung Hae, stood up and read G-Dragon’s handwritten letter on his behalf. The letter garnered much media attention and also instilled hope for the artist’s career.
Furthermore, not only did G-Dragon mention his case in the letter, but he also added his grief for the suffering youth who turned to substance abuse and pledged to stand firm in helping the illegal drug cases in South Korea.
What did G-Dragon write in his letter to the fans?
G-Dragon was initially going to invite his fans to address the situation publicly and help them understand what was actually going on, but the constant mix-up in the reports made it risky for him to be physically present at the conference.
G-Dragon’s handwritten letter is written in Korean, but the translated version includes him thanking fans for their encouragement and how he’s been able to rise above the occasion because of them. He wants to begin the new year afresh and leave the past behind.
He further mentions the sad truth of the drug abuse situation in Korea, stating,
“As this incident passes, I saw a place that I have not seen until now. While watching the news, I learned the fact that each year, there are an average of 20,000 illegal drug users and that the number of adolescent drug offenders has increased dramatically. I also learned the painful truth that of these 20,000 people, not even 500 people per year can receive treatment through these treatment facilities. ”
He announces that he has decided to build a foundation that will help and rehabilitate those who are addicted or turn to substance abuse and treat them with kindness after all the pain they have received from the world.
He also writes. ” I believe the world changes when thoughts and feelings such as these gather together to take action. This was also a very eventful year for me. ” He ends the note thanking YG and BIGBANG for making him the person he is today, grateful for the new alliance with Galaxy Corporation.
Why did G-Dragon write the letter in the first place?
In October of this year, G-Dragon was accused of drug abuse and was called in by the Incheon police department for urine and hair samples. However, he was quickly cleared of all the charges, and the investigation was closed.
Due to this, G-Dragon’s career took a huge hit as netizens were suspicious of his actions. The idol was already a target of rumors and controversies, and the drug allegations made it harder for him to make an appearance or even continue his life as an idol.
After encountering such a case, G-Dragon realized the severity of the situation and how common it was among the youth in Korea. The harsh working and living conditions often led to people taking the wrong path.
Realizing this, the idol expressed his gratitude to his fans for supporting him constantly and letting him overcome the difficult times in his life. Through his foundation, he wishes to help those who are lost and guide them back to the right path, treating them with the kindness and respect that they deserve.
