Netflix has just finished airing its newest dark comedy, Beef, this month and as soon as the show ended, fans of the miniseries couldn’t wait to see more of it. We can’t blame them as the ending left us hopeful in both Danny and Amy have a good end to their unnecessarily prolonged feud.
First aired on the streaming platform on April 6th, 2023, Beef is both a comedy and a psychological drama that features two strangers, Danny Cho and Amy Lau building a revengeful relationship that leads to a snowball effect in both of their lives. As they try and get back at each other, Danny and Amy become more involved with each other and realize they have much more in common than they first imagined.
The show is directed by Lee Sung Jin and lead cast members include Steven Yeun and Ali Wong. It has received positive reviews for both the actors’ performance and the storyline that manages to take its viewers through each character’s perspective. Beef is a show that talks about two adults who come from toxic backgrounds, and how they face the consequences of their anger outbursts.
Despite being greedy, selfish, and aggressive, both Amy and Danny find moments of confrontation that lead to them realizing their mistakes. This is the reason some viewers feel the need for a second season, as we couldn’t see more of Amy and Danny being happy in each other’s company.
Beef: What Happened in Season 1?
The previous season began with Contractor Danny Cho shopping at Forster’s and heading back home when suddenly he ends up being blocked by Amy, a small plant business owner. They both go through road rage where Any almost hits Danny’s car. He notes her license plate number and returns home. We later are shown scenes where we realize both Danny and Amy come from unsatisfactory households where they aren’t as appreciated as they would like.
After he tries to end his life and fails, Danny thinks about the road rage incident and tracks Amy down. He pretends to be a plumber and enters her home, and when he asks who was driving the car, Amy confirms it was her. He gets back at her by messing up her hardwood floor and runs away. When her husband, George returns home, she lets him know about the incident and they decide to take action against him.
Meanwhile, Danny tries to come up with a new business plan that would involve his cousin, Isaac. Amy tracks Danny and his brother, Paul, and tries to catfish them by pretending to be her coworker Mia. She later also paints all over Danny’s car, which infuriates him beyond measure. With their relationship declining, George and Amy try their hand at the couple’s counseling. Danny tries to get a loan to start his business but eventually resorts to stealing from Veronica’s church.
Paul finds out about the catfish but tries to stay with her despite knowing who she was. When he asks her for money, Amy declines, which causes them to end their short relationship. George cheats on Amy with Mia. By episode 7, things seemingly get better for both Danny and Amy, but we see that Danny’s dream home is burnt to ashes. He immediately suspects Amy and steals her car, not knowing June, her daughter, was in it. Isaac tries to kidnap June in exchange for money.
A violent set of events follow the incident, where Jordan dies and Paul is assumed dead. Danny and Amy make it out alive and finally have a clear conversation and let out all of their built-up anger. They reach a tunnel together where George assumes Danny is harming Amy and shoots him. The show ends with Amy at the hospital with Danny supposedly in a coma. He lifts his hand to hug her, showing that he was not killed by George’s shot.
Beef Season 2: When Will It Release?
There’s a high chance that Beef would be having two more seasons in total. This is because creator Lee Sung Jin has expressed his views on the storyline and wanted to keep the story between Amy and Danny going. He has a plot made up in his mind that we’ll be seeing portrayed on the show soon.
Coming to the release date of Beef Season 2, it could be premiering on Netflix by April of next year. The first season of the dark comedy was first announced back in March 2021, with castings being announced a year later the same month. After filming began in April 2022, the series premiered in April 2023. This gives us two years time until the next season of the psychological drama premieres and we can expect it by Summer 2025. Until then, head over to Netflix to watch the first season of Beef.
