Netizens trolling celebs over body issues has become such a daily event that it has led to an increase in anxiety and depression. Due to this, Bebe Rexha has decided to step out of MTV’s VMA event.
Bebe Rexha, who is set to present and is nominated at the 2023 MTV VMAs, has spoken about her anxiousness before the award show.
The pop singer, aged 34, posted a TikTok on Monday expressing uncertainty about attending the Video Music Awards on Tuesday night because she was feeling extremely anxious.

In the video, the singer said that she is not sure whether she will attend the show or not. She did mention that she had a nice outfit ready for the event, and she really wanted to wear that and celebrate her nomination and her friend’s nomination. But she feels anxiety is getting the better of her.
She also stated that she lacked confidence about the event, even though she received a nomination for the Best Collaboration category for her song with David Guetta, titled, “I’m Good (Blue)”.
She started her TikTok video by thanking a feeling fortunate for being invited to award shows and doing what she is passionate about. She recognized that dealing with criticism is a normal part of her profession, and although she usually handles it well, she admitted that, at times, it can get to her because, just like everyone else, she is only human.
Bebe Rexha feels underconfident and anxious
She went on to explain that she wanted to bring this up because she met many people, who often admired how she promoted body positivity and confidence. Rexha further says, “Right now, I’m not feeling so confident.”
The singer of “I’m Good” expressed her anxiety and stress about walking the red carpet. She mentioned concerns about people discussing her weight and explained that she does not currently have the same level of self-love and confidence that she typically has when she feels like her strong and confident self.
She clarified her reason for sharing this message, saying, “Everybody has these days, and nobody feels perfect”. She also reached out to her fans for any motivational advice they might have. The artist behind “Meant to Be” wrapped up by hinting that she might still make an appearance on the red carpet the following day.
Rexha was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome
Earlier this year, Rexha revealed that she was diagnosed with a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome, PCOS, which often leads to weight gain. She has openly discussed how PCOS has impacted her, including in a May interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, where she described it as a challenging experience and mentioned how hurtful it has been to read negative comments about her body on the internet.

She shared with Hudson, who is 41 years old, that when you are in the people’s eye, these things are expected. She mentioned that she used to be thinner but acknowledged that she had gained some weight, which is part of her profession. She explained that she is not upset about it because it is a fact, but reading such comments can have a negative impact.
Afterward, the singer-songwriter, who had also been injured when a fan threw a cell phone at her during a June performance, has been addressing people who engage in body shaming on the internet.
In a post on X in June, the artist behind “Break My Heart Myself” wrote that she is aware that she has gained weight and she has become tired of people discussing it.
