The Attack on Titan franchise reached new heights of popularity after the epic faceoff between captain Levi and the Beast Titan. You can imagine how jaw-dropping it was from the fact that the episode titled “Hero,’ still has an IMDb rating of 9.9 and shares a position among the list of highest-rated episodes in television history. (probably in #2 right after Breaking bad)
Well, you will be surprised to know that the Beast Titan wasn’t this strong before Zeke inherited it; otherwise, how could Marley have afforded someone (Tom Ksaver) with titan powers just to research in a lab instead of fighting wars? It was probably Zeke’s royal bloodline and sheer determination that shaped his Beast Titan into an invincible monster that no one had ever seen before. In no time, he became feared among Marley’s enemies, and why won’t he be? Come on; he literally had the power to single-handedly massacre an entire army just by throwing rubbles at them. Here, I have noted down all the abilities of Zeke’s Beast Titan, thereby explaining why the Marleyan government gave him so much importance despite him being an Eldian.
Zeke’s Beast Titan showed a versatile array of abilities that none of the previous inheritors showed. He used his titan powers in sinister ways that no one could ever even think of and turned the tides of many lost wars for Marley. As I said, it was Zeke’s royal bloodline that turned him into a prodigy, but what’s even more surprising is that some of his abilities showed uncanny similarities to the power of the Founding Titan.
As the name itself suggests, the Beast Titan possesses animal-like features, unlike the other Titans, who look much like humans even after their transformation. Over the years, the inheritors of Beast Titan have taken various animal appearances, including monkeys, birds, crocodiles, elk, bulls, wolves, snakes, rabbits, dinosaurs, okapis, and goats. Even Falco recalled the memories of a prior Beast Titan who could soar high up in the sky, and he managed to forge his Jaw Titan into a similar bird-like creature. (This was possible due to intaking a high amount of Zeke’s spinal fluid when he got hit with the wine bottle)
I think that the animal traits of the Beast Titan depend a lot on the inheritor’s personality and other qualities. For example, Zeke spent his childhood playing catch with Ksaver, so his Titan form took the appearance of an ape that specializes in throwing rocks like some professional baseball pitcher. This ability is so effective and overpowered that he slew the entire army of Survey Corps while they were trying to win back Wall Maria.
Like most other legendary titans, the Beast Titan shows hardening ability too. Although it’s certainly not effective as that of the War Hammer Titan or the Attack Titan, but it works just fine if your objective is to survive a fatal blow. Zeke tried hardening his nape in his fight against Levi, but our veteran captain was too fast, and he sliced Zeke out of his titan body before he could harden.
With his spinal fluid, Zeke could turn any Eldian into a mindless titan. This insane ability sets him apart from all the other legendary titans, and he has used this trump card to win numerous battles for Marley. All he required was a scream to raise an army of titans, provided he had enough Eldians around him.
According to Niccolo, it was a popular Marleyan tactic to overrun an entire area with Zeke’s titan. We saw him doing so during the Wall Rose invasion, where he used a special gas to transform everyone in the Rakago village, and also during the battle at Fort Slava, where he rained titans over the enemy.
If creating titans sound bad enough, let me remind you that Zeke had complete control over the titans he created. Normally pure titans have their natural instinct of devouring any human on their way, but Zeke can make his titans attack anyone he wishes to kill. The Female Titan could do something similar too, but her titan control powers were far from that of Zeke’s.
