While we as an audience have some experience in watching people compete against each other to prove their cooking skills and find out who can do it better, a new competitive cooking series titled Beachside Brawl has hit us with a somewhat unique concept. The show does not focus on the cooks’ individual dishes that they may be most confident in. Instead, it puts the spotlight on food from two completely opposite regions to see, finally, which one is better.
To explain it roughly, the show is a competition between experienced chefs from two opposite locations, i.e., the East and the west coast, to make dishes representing these areas and finally find out which one has better summer food. This nicely explains the ‘brawl’ part of the title. The ‘beachside’ portion can be related to the fact the entire competition throughout the episodes and seasons takes place in a coastal region, literally on a beachside.
The reality show has Chef Antonia Lafaso as the primary host and two teams of five trained chefs, each representing the East and the west coast, headed by two chefs who can be considered team leaders and mentors. The two teams compete under the mentorship of the two lead chefs, only for one to stand proudly as the show’s winner with a hefty reward in hand.
The show released its first season back in 2022 and very recently came out with a second season, this time with more heat among the contestants. Though to the outsiders, the show may feel like any other cooking competition show, people from the West and east coast obviously take it more personally, considering the fact that the finale of the show would, like it or not, an answer which side has better food.
The two teams compete and work under a lot of pressure, trying to put forth the best representation of where they come from, all the while being motivated by the reward, which happens to be a dream beach all-expenses-paid-holiday worth somewhere around twenty-five thousand dollars.
In the new season of the show, as well, two teams of a total of five chefs, under the leadership of Chef Brian Malarkey, representing the West, and Chef Eric Adjepong, representing the East, have taken on the challenge to prove which side is the better of the two.
Beachside Brawl’s Filming Locations
Redondo Beach, California
The show brings together a band of trained and well-experienced chefs from both opposing coasts to pit the two teams against each other. And to make things even more interesting, the contestants are made to play or indulge in different games for them to get their hands on the required ingredients for the dishes.
All of these games and cooking processes with host and Chef Antonia Lofaso take place in the location itself, which happens to be Redondo Beach, situated in California. The filming location is one of the few beautiful beach cities located in Los Angeles County in California. The city itself is a beautiful space that attracts hundreds if not thousands of tourists, which has also turned it into a more commercialized space with tons of eating spots and restaurants like Dominique’s Kitchen, Salt Fish Grill, and many more.
It is at Redondo Beach that the contestants are asked to create summer dishes that would match perfectly with the vibe of the beach and the season. The entire show gets shot over the span of six long weeks, and the participants spend their time at the beach learning more about the tropical atmosphere of the location and incorporating it into their food.
Maybe it is the fact that the chefs on the show represent their respective coastal areas or the fact the show uses the gorgeous Redondo Beach city as its filming spot, but the show as a whole gives off major refreshing energy, which feels like a requirement during summer.
