Be The Actor Chapter 59 opens up with Youngguk going into action as Act 1 Scene 1 of the play begins. Youngguk enters the stage acting as a crippled person with crutches. He begins to tell his tale to the audience starting with his life as a cadet in the army who fought to intercept the northern Korean adversaries advancing south of the Nakdong River.
Recap
Youngguk continues his tale and says that all of his comrades perished in the war, and only he, the youngest of them all, survived with a leg injury. He then turns towards a passerby and asks him if he wants his shoes polished. The Passerby grunts and walks away from Youngguk. He then tells everyone that he is working as a shoe shiner now.
Youngguk apologizes to everyone as he strayed further from the topic, and then he sits down to continue his tale about life in the trenches. Youngguk’s co-actors watch Youngguk’s performance with great attention because they wonder how someone can be this good at stage play.
Despite everyone’s different reactions to the performance, they all had one thing clear and that is the fact that this performance will take Youngguk to much greater heights in his career. Youngguk continues his play and tells his remaining tell of the trenches. He explains about his friend’s demise and his courageous battle in great detail.
Youngguk’s story gathers the attention of all the people around him and so they all stop to listen to his tale. Youngguk welcomes everyone with open arms and eventually finishes his story. In the end, He looks at the audience and asks them if they’d be interested in listening to his next narrative. The play ends with this final line.
Jung Yongdae, The Playwright, gasps at Youngguk’s performance and grows interested in knowing more about him. Yongdae was the most renowned playwright in modern and contemporary Korean theater but one day he reached the end of his creativity and couldn’t even write the opening line for his plays.
Yongdae came to watch Youngguk’s play in hopes of reigniting his muse, and he finally found his lost confidence after she saw Youngguk performing on the stage. The focus then shifts to Yongdae writing his new play, but he still fails to write after the starting line because he keeps thinking about the actor he saw earlier.
Yongdae wonders if he should have taken Youngguk’s contact, but he thinks that it would have been inappropriate to ask for the contact number of someone capable of one day taking the lead role. Suddenly, Youngguk’s commercial appears on the television, and Yongdae almost spits his coffee.
Yongdae immediately calls Seokcheol and asks for his permission to visit the set during Youngguk’s performance. The Next day, Youngguk arrives at the studio with Bongchun. Bongchun asks Youngguk if he’s going to attend the SBC Acting Awards because PD Kimjin has said that he will win the Best Male Actor award.
Youngguk starts thinking about how he has achieved so much before even reaching 20 years of age, and then he shifts his attention back to preparing for the climax of the show “Confession of the Priest”. Actor Sea still hasn’t arrived at set, but Youngguk believes that he’ll make it in time.
Scene number 101, “Revelation of truth,” begins. The Detective rushes through the traffic to catch the Priest because he has now found solid evidence to confirm that he’s the murderer. Rushing through the traffic, The Detective finally reaches Father Matheo’s location but he’s too late.
The Priest welcomes the arrival of the detective with a smile covered in blood. The Detective watches the dead body of Bishop Mincheol with a disgusted expression. With 6 murders to his name, Father Matheo gets arrested by the police, but he just laughs and says that he has 7 victims instead of 6. The focus shifts to Yagobu dead on the hospitality floor.
