HGTV’s Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge comes right at the time of the premiere of the Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling flick now in theaters everywhere and basically, it is Ashley Graham’s take on the marketing of the Barbie brand piggybacked on the hype of Barbie’s theatric premiere.
As such, we’ll see how renovators paired in teams of eight compete against one another in real estate renovations giving it a real-life Barbie doll look. Whoever does the best, wins the contest. Doesn’t get any easier. If you like Barbie, are hyped about the movie, and also are a fan of renovation shows, this one is an easy watch you can consider adding to your watchlist because the show’s pacing, contestants, and format is very entertaining.
Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge Episode 2 Recap
The show kicks off with two couples discussing what they’ve done so far in the show, and then a skit where a Barbie helicopter with a doll lands in front of the house they’re going to renovate tells them what the challenge is about.
This time is all about the bedroom and Ken’s den. The rules are that they must create a functional space based on the Barbie movie, it must be up-to-date with trends and they must finish that within a week.
The team that got the Ken’s Den had previously competed in Windy City Rehab and Battle on the Beach, while the Bedroom Suite team has worked on Farmhouse Suite. The theme for Ken’s Den is the 1970s. For the bedroom team, they must decorate in the style of the 1980s.
The teams begin the renovations. Ken’s Den ends up with 1970s psychedelic wallpaper, surfboards, big couches, and lava lamps; while the bedroom has a nice bed, the sink’s main attraction is a giant brush in the style and fashion that Barbie dolls had. But the winner is the team that did the Ken Den.
