Nelly partied so vigorously over Super Bowl weekend that he ended up knocking out one of his teeth. Interestingly, Ashanti seems to find some amusement in the situation.
The 49-year-old rapper took to his Instagram grid on Saturday, sharing a video with his followers where he mentioned his intention to call his “baby,” Ashanti, 43, to show her that he had “knocked my g—— tooth out my mouth.”
When their FaceTime call connected and Ashanti appeared on the screen, she humorously asked, “Babe, where is it?” This playful exchange referenced another tooth Nelly had lost during a trip to Miami together. “Where are the spares?” she asked, as a joking but frustrated Nelly told her he didn’t have spare teeth.
“You still love me?” Nelly asked, to which the “Foolish” singer replied, “Of course,” through her nonstop laughter.
“Babe, what are we gonna do?” Ashanti asked, laughing, as Nelly told her he planned to visit a dentist to address the issue. In a playful tone, Ashanti suggested that he needed a “mobile dentist.”
“You still look cute, though,” Ashanti reassured him before they shared a laugh about how he would need to hold the microphone close to his face during his show. Amusingly, Ashanti suggested that Nelly could fill the gap with a piece of Chiclet’s gum.
Nelly and Ashanti’s relationship has been a roller-coaster ride spanning decades. Dating rumors first surfaced shortly after they met in 2003, but they often hinted at their romance and subsequent breakups without confirming them until 2015.
Despite their split, they reunited onstage at the Verzuz event alongside Ja Rule and Fat Joe in 2021. The next year, they once again performed together, delighting fans by singing their 2008 hit “Body on Me” during Power 98.3 and 96.1’s Under the Mistletoe concert.
Speculation about a renewed romance resurfaced when, in April 2023, Nelly and Ashanti were seen holding hands in Las Vegas during a boxing match. The couple made their first red carpet appearance together in years in June 2023. However, it wasn’t until September 2023, at the MTV VMAs, that Ashanti officially confirmed their relationship while walking the red carpet.
“We’re in a great space, everything is positive, we’re having a lot of fun,” Ashanti shared, expressing openness to another collaboration with Nelly in the future. The duo recently joined forces with Juicy J on Jermaine Dupri’s latest single “This Lil’ Game We Play,” released last Friday.
