Months after hitting theaters and weeks after its digital release, Sony’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die has reached a significant global box office milestone.
This weekend, in its 10th week, the action comedy passed the $400 million mark worldwide. This achievement brings it closer to matching its predecessor, 2020’s Bad Boys for Life. The fourth film in the franchise opened in early June, a time when the box office was struggling.
The summer started poorly with notable flops like The Fall Guy and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. However, Bad Boys: Ride or Die and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes helped the industry recover.
The ‘Bad Boys’ Franchise Has Made Over $1.2 Billion in Worldwide Revenue
This recovery was marked by hits like Inside Out 2, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Despicable Me 4. Bad Boys: Ride or Die and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes were close in performance until recently.
Currently, Bad Boys: Ride or Die has earned $193 million in the U.S. and $207 million from international markets, totaling exactly $400 million worldwide. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is slightly behind, with $396 million globally.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die still has a release planned in Japan, which will bring it closer to its predecessor’s total of $424 million. With a production budget of $100 million, Bad Boys: Ride or Die is the second-highest-grossing film in the franchise, which started in 1995 with Michael Bay’s popular first film.
The ‘Bad Boys’ franchise has now earned over $1.2 billion globally. The original Bad Boys made over $140 million worldwide, and Bad Boys II grossed over $270 million.
Starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, the films have been a major financial success. Despite a setback in Smith’s career following an incident at the Oscars, Bad Boys: Ride or Die’s success shows his strong popularity.
Directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who also directed the third film, Bad Boys: Ride or Die received positive reviews and holds a “fresh” 65% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie is available for viewing both at home and in theaters. Stay tuned to Otakukart for further updates.
