YG Entertainment has earned audience attention and a great reputation in the industry through the international success of their girl group BLACKPINK. Now, the agency is set to introduce the awaiting audience and fans to another promising girl group, BABYMONSTER.
On 1 January 2023, officially announced and introduced the seven-member girl group, which is soon to debut BABYMONSTER, through a clip titled “YG NEXT MOVEMENT” released on YouTube. The agency stated that the group is still a trainee group, and they plan to aim at showing the skills and talents of the members to the audience and people through this step.
YG Entertainment released a teaser for “LAST REVOLUTION” on March 6, in which Yang Hyun Suk revealed that the group would not be debuting with seven members, later revealing in the eighth episode that the group will have five members and would announce the final lineup on May 12.
Eventually, on 12 May 2023, it was announced that all seven members would be part of BABYMONSTER’s final lineup. Let’s learn more about the members in this lineup.
BABYMONSTER Members Profiles
The agency has officially shown the member of the group. But, since the group has not officially debuted yet, their positions in the group are not officially released or confirmed yet. The trainees have gone through extensive training and guidance, as stated by the instructors, in preparing for their debut.
Haram
Haram’s full name is Shin Haram, and she was born on 17 October 2007. She was the first member officially show on January 12, 2023, and has been training under YG for four years. She was a child model for clothing brands and such and has been modeling since the age of two. She’s fluent in Korean and English. She is introduced as likely to be the Vocalist and the Dancer of the group.
Ahyeon
Ahyeon’s full name is Jung Ahyeon, and she was born on 11 April 2007. She is likely to be the Vocalist, Rapper, and Dancer of the group. She has been training at YG for 4 years and has been said to have the widest vocal range. She’s fluent in Korean, Chinese, and English. She has been dancing since the young age of five and is now described as the ace member by her instructors. She was the second member introduced on 16 January 2023.
Chiquita
Chiquita’s birth name is Riracha Phondechaphipat, and she was born on February 17, 2009. She is Thai, therefore, is fluent in Thai and English while still learning Korean. She will likely be the Vocalist, Dancer, Rapper, and Maknae of the group. Previously, she was in a cover group RedRose. She was the third member introduced on 23 January 2023.
Asa
Asa’s full name is Enami Asa, and she was born on 17 April 2006. She’s Japanese and is one of the first Japanese female idols that will debut under YG Entertainment along with fellow member Ruka.
She has done musical theater and auditioned with ‘Weekend Warrior’ by 80kidz. She’s considered the group’s ace and specializes in hip-hop dancing and would likely be the group’s rapper and dancer. She’s fluent in Japanese, Korean, and a little bit of English. She was the fourth member introduced on 26 January 2023.
Rora
Rora’s birth name is Lee Dain, and she was born on 14 August 2008. Rora is a former member of the kid-girl group U.SSO Girl, where she had the stage name U.ha. And also had an appearance in Weibo Chinese airing music video.
She will likely be the Vocalist and Dancer of the group and also specializes in playing piano. She was part of the Korean cooking show ‘Man vs. Child Korea,’ back in 2018 and has been training under YG since mid of 2018. She was the fifth member introduced on 30 January 2023.
Pharita
Pharita’s full name is Pharita Chaikong, while her Birth name is Pharita Boonpakdeethaveeyod. She’s of Thai nationality and would be the third Thai idol who would debut under YG Entertainment after Lisa from BLACKPINK and fellow BABYMONSTER member Chiquita.
She would likely be the vocalist and dancer of the group. Pharita can speak English and Thai and is almost fluent in Korean. She’s a former model who got first place and grand prize at Inter Model Thailand and was also a contestant in Idol Paradise under the name of Pear. She was the sixth member officially introduced on 2 February 2023.
Ruka
Ruka’s birth name is Kawai Ruka, and she was born on 20 March 2022. Her nationality is Japanese, and she is a former member of the Shibu3 Project, a Japanese girl group and one of the first female Japanese idols who would debut under YG, along with another BABYMONSTER member Asa. Between 2017-2018, Ruka was under PLATINUM PRODUCTION. She’s fluent in Japanese, Korean, and English and specializes in hip-hop dancing. She was the last member to be shown officially on 6 February 2023.
Debut Dates and Pre-Debut Single
On 14 May 2023, BABYMONSTER released their pre-debut single ‘DREAM’.
On 11 July 2023, YG Entertainment announced that they are planning to debut the girl group BABYMONSTER in September 2023 and are preparing and looking forward to it.
